Could have something to do with a function that takes care of line of fire occlusion as the function initiates when player is close to objects and looking at them.

In lates dev build this issue seems to be resolved. The problem does not occur anymore. I experience the lag only for a fraction of second when i approach an object and look at it, but once the first delay happens, everything runs quite smooth.

Same here, about +/- 50FPS in singleplayer, even higher in editor, but extremely slow (under 20FPS) in multiplayer scenarios.
