through multiple logouts, I was able to get rid of all my backpacks and my friend got the gear we would use (most of it was junk, we don't really need 10 water bottles or m4 mags). hopefully after another server reset, things will work again.

after waiting a bit, it seems the backpack thing was the cause. everything works again, good to know.
