Feature Request: Add "Eat all" or "Eat until full" options for food and drink items

Currently you're required to click 'eat' multiple times on food items with multiple charges if you want to consume them completly or until you're sated, it is a bit tedious as it plays the animation several times and if you're not currently wielding the item it will also play the "put weapon on your back, pull out consumable" animation multiple times.

It would be convenient if it were possible to consume a food item completly on until you're sated with a single prompt, it should take longer than eating a single serving but less so than repeating the 'eat single serving' process multiple times.

Agree! Same thing when I drink at a waterpump/well, I have to drink multiple times to completely satisfied my thirst. This is not really a bug, but it could be improved.

I think that it'd also be an awesome idea for partially drinking a can of fizzy drink. However, when you open it it slowly reduces the amount in it due to some spilling out when walking around etc.

eat all can - agree, eat until full - disagree.

agree would be a nice addition, however needs abort option

Yes pretty annoying. After eating it should not automatically remove the objects from your hands, it should stay there. Or atleast give us the option to choose what it does.

Either this or some indicator for how close to sated you are. I know that takes from "realism", but in the back end your hunger/thirst are numbers, why not expose that in the form of a meter. I could see an outline of a human, with one half red and one half blue. The blue side is water, red side is food, and when the meter reaches the top of your head you are "full" of either water or food.

boredsam: You know, I don't even see how this detracts from realism, in real life a person knows rather well how hungry or thirsty they are. Today I've spent 5 minutes in game eating every single food item I had (to kick off passive healing) and didn't get any message of any kind, that's unrealistic.

If the devs are concenred with realism they should think about emergent conditions such as gorging yourself with 5 cans of tuna after you've spent the last 30 minutes in a starving condition, in real life that could induce vomit and sickness, same for drinking too much after being dehydrated. In those scenarios your meters could report false information to 'mess with the players head' as your senses would in real life, but otherwise there's nothing unrealistic about having some 'vague' metrics that show your general degree of hunger, thirst and 'health/pain'.

Those options are a nice idea but would definitively need to be attached to an increased duration then single bites/swigs have.

I agree with 'Eat All Contents', but it should take as long as it would take to eat all of the contents, partially. So it takes like a few 45-120 seconds to eat or something :)

Agree. The idea is really good.

I agree, really irritating having to repeadetly press drink on fountain or eating some food, and its even worse if you have a delay/high ping

Anyway this is a good idea and I up vote it! I also like how we are sharing ideas! So much more productive than being arrogant fucks on the internet! :D

yeah like eat a quarter half or all of a can. And drink till full.

I think the better idea is to add the ability to eat/drink something while you holding a button (same as shooting). So if you hold a button character keeps biting/drinking, if you press just once - character takes just one bite/drink.
If <eat/drink until full> action will be added than it will be impossible to cancel this action (stop eating/drinking) until character finishes.

At least for each can/bottle this option should be available. Like "eat entire can of beans". Of course with a longer animation.

phoboss, but what if you urgently need to get up and run/shot/etc. for any reason? I think eating/drinking until you holding a button is much better.

having one button ie click do everything can end badly. considering how temperamental the inventory interaction is and that your gun can still fire on your back mouse click would end badly for anyone near you. worse when they implement grenades.


Surely just moving and canceling the action would be easy, think about what you are saying dude.

I like the hold button to continue eating/drinking idea but prefer the eat-all/drink-all option.. maybe we need a cancel action button? A button that cancels any action currently being performed?

So if in the middle of an eat-all or drink-all or maybe while bandaging you need to stop abruptly then you hit the cancel button..

So fucking monotonous and boring to sit through the animation four times to eat a can of beans. May as well add wait animations when changing clothes too. Tedium Simulator 2014.

In real life you don´t really know how hungry you are, thats just simply not true. Has something to do with lack of glucose in your brain.

Just the option should be there. Not anyone have to use it but in real you eat until you have no hunger/thirst too.

I think it would be nice to have it but when it comes to realism eating till you are full takes a bit of time. Making it a longer(with a interup option) animation would be good. This would also force people to eat when they are sure its safe to stop for a moment. Not just qickly eat something in the middle of the road and go on. IMERSION!

Is a good idea as long as can be interrupted by moving character a certain threshold, 30cm or so. Hopefully they add the same interuption to all actions, and allow other actions while moving(reload, equip, unequip etc.. properly).


I think you are missing the point. I don't have to push a button every time I want another portion, I eat until I am full.

Maybe an eat option whilst watching your character energize, with a break function when complete or you need to move quickly. The animation should remain the same though.

Yeah but you also eat your meal in several portions, and you stop eating after one of these portions. You don't gulp down a single portion, and you don't match its size to your hunger level.

In terms of realism, the current way (1 meal = 4 portions) is good as it is. You can stop eating when your status shows "energized". Absolutely no need for a change. I think you guys are just too lazy to click a few more times.

I like it how it is, just the execution should be improved

I hope that one day someone creates a mod for the game that adds timers to every single action you take and requires user prompts for absurd things like making sure your character successfully inserts the food to its mouth rather than spilling it all over his shirt (which would of course ruin the shirt and increase the likelihood of contracting cholera, can't have it any other way) then I would point at you and mock you for being lazy for not relishing the joy of waiting for 45 seconds while your character applies the can opener to its beans.

It's a video game, being more tedious does not make it any better. But I guess every opportunity to be condescending towards 'lazy CoD noobs' or whatever must be seized.

I thought it was crazy to have to make you eat a can of beans 3 or 4 times to consume the content, but eating is a time consuming activity. Keep it a time consuming activity. Too many games are all automatic and arcade like, this game has made its mark by being realistic. Eating food takes time...I think eating should be a part of the game, don't remove it by making it a single button press and then carry on running.

Eat Until full should only have an effect if you'd be full before emptying the can

Eat all - AGREE, Great idea.
For example when you want to eat whole pack of rice, you must repeat the eating order 10 times. It is annoying especially when the one bite takes about 5 seconds of your precious time.

Eat until full - DISAGREE (It is unnecessary)

Maybe I would think about DRINK UNTIL FULL option when you are drinking from fountain or other bottomless source.

eat-all button is absolutely enough.

i would like you to think about something:
if you are almost starving or dying of thurst, and then eating or drinking very much, you should vomit right away.

NO additional options please. If anything, make eating/drinking a process that happens over time, and have a bar display the percentage remaining in the consumable item. Larger portions require more time, for example banana takes 2 seconds, tuna takes 6, beans take 10. The process stops if you are full. Cancel the process anytime by moving your character (epoch-style).

Should have an eat all option for what your holding forsure, but NO for the eat till full

I think I should clarify that I never meant 'eat until full' consuming all available food until you're stuffed but rather than when clicking a single food item your character will not finish it if it gets stuffed.

I,e if you eat a full bag of rice you might eat too much, get stuffed, and vomit. what I suggest is merely that you have an option for your character to stop eating (the singular food item) if you get the 'i'm feeling full' message.

I dont think you should have to spam the well 40 times or so to drink until full, and I don't think that a tin of sardines really contains 4 portions! Take a sip from a canteen, for sure but let us scoff a whole tin in one go.

If that were addressed then we wouldn't need 'eat until full' which is not a solution I like. How will the game choose which foods to eat first? How will having a tin opener affect the optimum order of consumption?

I like to find a safe place and eat a ton of stuff until stuffed (I drink to full at every quiet well I come across) then it's not really an issue any more.

I agree, spamming drink is hacky.

This needs to be done. It's ridiculous to have to click over and over, especially with the stupid animations. Also, it takes way too much food to fill your character.

I have a completely healthy character, with the Healthy tag when you tab, and I just ate 3 cans of tuna, and two cans of beans and I am still not full. Think about how much food that is!!

Last is because you will never overeat or drink then, hence, this will exploit the overeating/ drinking feature. (Stuffed?)

@ItsMe360Nation: Please elaborate! I think eating a whole can of beans if you're starving isn't unrealistic. I suppose you didn't mean to say this, but without specifying, people can't really tell what you mean.

YESS!!!! It is in experimental i repeat the feature is in experimental.

I cannot wait to run up on someone eating until they are full, this will be a useless addition unless you like to get handcuffed, robbed and poisoned all in the time it will take you to eat until your full. Great Idea if your a bandit bad idea if you want to survive.

Eating takes a few seconds as is and if you haven't noticed you get stuck in the animation till your done so if a zombie happens to wander by he can Gnaw on you till you are done eating, or if you happen to be eating and a bandit comes by you are handcuffed before you can get your gun out already so adding this will just extend the time you are in the animation. I hope to axe some people how they are enjoying their eat all buttons

only eat all in can's. it is impossible to eat until full. and hard to stop yourself eating disinfectant

the eat all function has been implemented in the latest build. As for the length of the animation, that is a separate issue. And by the way, we are already considering making the animation longer, so don't worry :)
