vicinity range needs increasing at least 30%
Assigned, WishlistPublic

Description

vicinity range needs increasing at least 30%. You have to stand on tables etc sometimes to get it to recognise an object as in range. Also many object arn't targetable, again it seems due to the pickup range being to short. {F28349}

Ive noticed this as well and was going to add a bug report, but hey you got here first. Many times I hover over an item and nothing, Ill then switch to inventory screen and its in there, so I know its a useable item.

please. do not for the inventory however. you can basically - in pitch black - open the inventory and run through a room and can loot everything without actually ever seeing anything

Yep cause of this ive missed many items like a M4 which was stuck under a bed in barrack and no way to pick it up.

Any way to run a second check with a longer distance?

Say omni directional distance based check as is now, keep it short.

Secondary check based on aiming vector with a farther distance, allows for player to look at something, when context for pickup is broken as usual it shows up in vicinity.

Should allow for picking up stuff on the other side of debris while lowering the default actions for say disenfectant that is eat rather than take.

If you incrase the range only with a few it will not mean you can loot from the middle of the room.... But at the moment it is epicly annoying when you try reach something from the top of a something, or from under something.

Maybe not +30% but I feel the vicinity range should match the "pick up item" message range. Often I will have that message on screen but push tab to decide where the item should should go in my inventory, only to find that it's too far away to appear in the vicinity.

I had a can of tuna, I believe it was, stuck in the very back of a car trunk. I even glitched with vault into the middle of the car and still couldn't get it in my vicinity.

I dont think the answer is to increase range of vicinity, but change where each piece of loot spawns so that it is accessable. If you increase the range, it would be massively exploitable.

Well sometimes I drop objects and can't pick them up again because they're half inside a wall etc...

I think the action radius needs to be increased, so when your hovering over an item you can pick it up from about 15% further distance would be nice.

I agree but it has to be very VERY carefully balanced. Yesterday I had a M4 under one of the bunks of a barracks. I could not for the life of me get it to appear in my vicinity window. But at the same time I could target it and detach some of its components. So I guess at least make vicinity range on par with targeting range.

Vicinity is really retarded right now. Stuff will be in prone range, but if you go prone you can't access it. Stuff will be literally right in front of you and you can't access it.

To be honest, Vicinity should work within a 1-2m radius around the player. Let's be honest, if you were in the Firestation, below the stairs with all of those shelves, you wouldn't need to run up and down them just to grab a couple things.

This needs addressing frustration when something is within reach but unobtainable

I think it is a good part of a survival game that you sometimes have to go through a little trouble to get an item.

By the way here is a trick that can help: Unequip your weapon so you can stand a bit closer to the loot spot.

I don't know about 30%...people could like the one guy said sprint through and grab without seeing anything. . I like the idea of hidden loot.. however.. loot in sight you can't get is equally irritating

Also encountered unaccessible loot on a bin a few times. In some kind that`s pretty realistic, tough. You see something but cannot get it.

I don't know if this has been said before but a lot of times when items are like on a shelf and all the way on top of it, they don't show up in the vicinity menu so you have to pick them up by aiming at them which I find to be really annoying because it takes longer and it is also really inconsistent, you might even risk glitching your items that it dropped into a wall.

The only problem I've ever had with vicinity has been on top of the lockers in the second floor of the fire stations, other than that it's 100% fine in my opinion - You can seemingly struggle to find some items in the boots of cars but that's easily worked around but aiming at the item and pressing in the mouse wheel, not a big issue.

Maybe add the 30% increase to objects that you're character can see. So proning looking under bed it will come up because you know its there
