FEATURE REQUEST
Suppressors for the .408 and .50 caliber sniper rifles that were introduced on June 5th, 2013 via Alpha update version 0.60
RATIONALE
- Suppressors are provided in the vanilla game for the other weapon calibers, making the .408 and .50 the odd men out. The programatic side of the feature already exists in the vanilla game, and the suppressors would not be a new class of attachment or a new weapon altogether.
- Suppressors have existed and been successfully and regularly deployed for such calibers for at least a decade. They are real world items.
- (New) The Marksmen DLC’s inclusion of the suppressed .338 sniper rifle shows that BIS supports such devices being in the game, thus making the “game balancing” argument irrevocably moot.
HISTORY
This ticket is a duplicate of tickets number 0010808 and 0011184 and is being submitted because both tickets are closed, one as a duplicate, and one as fixed, yet the request has not been fulfilled.
TIMELINE
- June 5th, 2013:
Alpha update 0.60 adds the .408 and .50 rifles.
- June 30th, 2013:
Ticket 0010808 submitted requesting suppressed sniper rifles. Ticket includes photos of .408 and .50 caliber weapons with suppressors.
- July 5th, 2013:
Ticket 0011184 submitted requesting suppressed sniper rifles; specifically for the .408 and .50 caliber weapons included in the game. This ticket was closed as a duplicate of the previous ticket, showing that it was understood that the first ticket is also requesting suppressors for those rifles.
- April 6th, 2015:
Ticket 0010808 is closed as Resolved / Fixed, and noted, “The ticket is fulfilled with the release of the [Marksmen] DLC.”
- April 8th, 2015:
Marksmen DLC and game version 1.42 are released. Neither contain the requested suppressors for .408 or .50 caliber sniper rifles in the vanilla game, nor are there such weapons in the DLC. There is a heavy, slightly lesser caliber (.338) suppressed sniper rifle which can be obtained by purchasing the DLC.
When this was pointed out in ticket 0010808, the response was, effectively, that it was felt that the original 2 requests made 2 years ago were not in fact requesting suppressors specifically for the then just-released rifles. Based on the above timeline and on the specificity of the second ticket that was closed as a duplicate of the first, I respectfully disagree with this interpretation.
I don’t think it is fair to the people who submitted the original tickets or to those who supported them to close the request as “Fixed” due to an unforeseeable, for-purchase DLC (which does not include the requested items) being released 2 years later.
