Game Crashes on main menu with Overwolf overlay activated.
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Since a few patches ago, I've been experiencing CTDs when starting the game. It would boot up, show the splash screens and logos and then flicker and crash. I wasn't able to play at all. It's been a very frustrating few months, hoping for it to be fixed so I can play again. None of the fixes of other people having crashes on startup worked for me (reinstalling drivers, -nobenchmark or reinstalling DirectX from the ARMA 3 folder etc). I haven't reported it yet because I had no clue at all what might've been causing it, but this morning I finally found a consistent influence on whether it crashes or not.

The Overwolf ingame overlay. When I close it before starting the game, the game runs fine (yay!). But when I leave it on, I always crash after the logo screens during startup. It seems to crash when it has to render a 3D environment, like the background in the main menu, though this is just speculation. This occurs on both the regular build and the dev build. So far, I don't have this problem with any other games while running Overwolf. {F23021} {F23022}

Steps To Reproduce
  1. Have Overwolf installed:
  1. Start up the game.
  1. Observe a crash after the ARMA III logo shows up the second time (after the BI logo shows).

Thank you for you assistance. Attachments updated, good luck ironing this out!

I am unable to reproduce this crash. I tried play with Overwolf and game didn't crash, it works correctly on my pc. Crashdumps are corrupted (zero size).

Did you try it in dev version on Steam?
Right click on Arma III in your Steam Library>Properties>Betas>development build
This version may not stable and it can contain more bugs, than Stable Arma 3 version.

Overlord? Are you sure you installed the correct program? :P

Yes, I install Overwolf, it was only my stupid mistake, when I wrote my last post. Thank you for notice. :)
I edited in my previous post, from Overlord to Overwolf.

Too bad that you could not reproduce the problem.
I also have it. To reproduce try:

  1. Run Overwolf.
  2. Run Arma3.
  3. Join the game server.

The problem occurs most often when switching from the game menu (server browser) to the mission welcome screen.

I'll check on Beta.

The beta version is more stable with Overwolf.
The beta version of Arma3 stopped working when I closed and start Overwolf again, when the game was launched.
Normal version, as it often happens to me, stopped working immediately after starting when Overwolf was running.

That's odd, I think there might have gone something wrong during uploading?? I just tried to launch the game on dev build with Overwolf activated and it still crashes on startup. I also recorded the crash on my camcorder, will upload that as a private video to youtube, I'll post the link here as soon as possible.

For now, the crash dumps:

Added video link to 'Additional Information' section to clarify what happens during the crash. Note the Overwolf overlay in the top right of the screen disappearing right before the program crashes.
