Workshop missions dont start and stuck to "Action finished succesfully"
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

When clicking to play my Whole Lotta Altis SP mission, nothing happens (or once it downloaded the mission again and stopped when the download-par was full) and once clicking any other mission (clicked WLA COOP version) in the list it displays looped "Action finished succesfully" and stuck in that until forcing game to exit.

I have no mods enabled, only these parameters:
-nosplash -cpucount=4 -maxmem=4048 -maxVRAM=1860

Using the DEV-version and checked that the game files arent broken.

Tested to missions by Bardosy and those worked. Seems like something wrong with my mission upload. :S

After latest DEV-patch I am getting dialog error with listboxes (ScrollBar), if that have some role with the issue. Still the mission launches outside of workshop.

SaOk added a comment.Dec 12 2013, 12:21 PM

Using non-Dev-game, reuploading, resubcriding didnt work. With non-Dev, the scrollbar issue is gone, but seems like that was unrelated issue.

If it matters my download region is set Sweden.

Even less people can open my WLA mission in workshop. I tried to reupload it again. This time when starting the mission it loads the menu background cutscene instead (with the white circle structures).

Someone posted this comment of the issue:
"every time I open ARMA 3 the mission don't start, I have to cancel the subscription, and then on again ...."

Seems like some can play, some need reseting, for me even that dosent help and there was some who's savegames dissapear. Outside workshop all work without problems.

I have updated my missions in the last couple of days on the stable version of Arma 3. When I update them, some updates are fine, A couple of missions don't seem to finish updating completely before the screen automatically goes into Steam. Now on my computer, I can't play those two missions. I get various freezes and messages such as "Action completed successfully". Up until Thursday when the stable branch was updated I had no problem. My affected missions are Helicopter Golf For Beginners & Helicopter Golf Advanced. Helicopter Golf Intermediate, which was updated at the same time, and my other missions play fine.

Another I noticed yesterday, was that I couldn't type from the keyboard when editing my missions. Outside Arma the keyboard was working fine. I don't know if this might have anything to do with it.

To make workshop missions work you will need to delete files in Documents\Arma 3\[yourprofile]\Saved\steam

I deleted the files as above and I can now play the missions again, but I still can't update them. It appears that one mission did update, with the trigger working correctly, but the second one hasn't. It's not a mission breaker, it just won't end the mission.

So far I have been unable to replicate this :-/ Is there some other way you are able to trigger this "Action finished succesfully" message?

SaOk added a comment.Jan 6 2014, 12:42 PM

It seems to happen only if you had the mission subcrided before the last official patch. Then there was outdated code in the Documents\Arma 3\[yourprofile]\Saved\steam that required manual removal before the mission could launch with redownloaded mission.

Even the mission would now work, there is now players reporting missing savegames when using workshop. The resume button dont appear for them. That issue also started after the last official patch came out (issues with DEV too).

Edit: If playing in old manual way, there is no issues with savegames.

Ok, any more info for the saves games?

SaOk added a comment.Jan 6 2014, 1:34 PM

Tried to get the loadgame issue, but that dosent seem to happen for me yet. Not sure if the players with that issue had some mods installed. Will try it again later and report here if spotting anything.

For me the problem seems to have moved on a bit. I have updated a mission this weekend that was originally uploaded on 1st Jan. In order to get the updated mission I exited Arma, deleted the savegame for that mission, restarted Arma, downloaded the mission which stuck on 100%, exited Arma again, deleted the savegame again, restarted Arma and then I could play the updated mission. Is this something to do with changes to the Steam Workshop interface, as I have noticed that we can't assign tags to newly uploaded missions. To reproduce, you would need to be subscribed to a mission, which is then updated, then try and download the updated mission.

Gekon added a comment.Jan 7 2014, 10:19 AM

The tags not being updated is a known issue (http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=16609) that will be fixed in the next few updates (I'm not sure about exe version atm, so perhaps even the very next update). This is something else, will try to replicate that.

One report again in my WLA workshop page.
"having an issue with this mode. last night it was working fine but today my save is gone and i cant even get it to load :\ i click play and nothing happens. any advice?"

Seems like if you are playing and new version is released, it messes things badly.

Someone is using this trick to use savegames that suddently dont appear:
"When i want to load,i has just "play" but my saves files were into C:\Users\Alexandre\Documents\Arma 3\Saved\steam\[dyn%2fsp]%20whole%20lotta%20altis.altis

To reload your old game:

  • Don't create new game now.
  • Copy the file "save.arma3save" and put it anywere you want.
  • Delete the folder [dyn%2fsp]%20whole%20lotta%20altis.altis.
  • Create new game.
  • The [dyn%2fsp]%20whole%20lotta%20altis.altis.The new file isn't your old because it was patch yesterday. old : 3868kb new : 3885kb, that why the game don't found your old save.
  • Quit and paste the old "save.arma3save".into the new folder save.
  • optionnal i have paste this "save.arma3save" too and rename it to "autosave.arma3save" to have the second same save file.

Enjoy. sorry for my english."

Is the game currently forcing the latest mission version to be used all the time? Before it only downloaded the latest mission version when starting new game. If using resume you could continue playing the old version.

Gekon added a comment.Jan 14 2014, 4:41 PM
  • When resuming old (before-update) save, the game should load the save with the proper version of the mission.
  • When starting a new replay, the game should use the updated /current/ version.

This is handled by the new manager that also enables offline play. We will check this, thanks for the info, if anything else appears, please, post it here.

Same problem here...
I get the same message 'Action finished successfully'
But I can't do anything and have to force close the game.

We have been able to replicate the issue. Thanks for the info.

SaOk added a comment.Jan 15 2014, 3:58 PM

Just in case - someone now mentioned, that the issue could be related to admin rights in windows?:
"I am using JSRS and Blastcore too. It is'nt mod issue.
It's an Admin user issue:
The new mission file who is patched did'nt erase the old. The game search the true version but don't find it and don't load the older.
Run admin steam and arma 3. Change it into properties of these ".exe"."

@Gekon, a situation to consider -

I have a mission that originally allowed saves (not for any reason, i just hadnt disabled it), I later added enableSaving false, about the same time i first experienced the issue described above (month or two ago) and now reading all the above, it sounds like the old save games might be the issue...

BUT, since i've disabled saving now, could the game now trying to automatically attempt to load either an old version of the mission or the save? and because its disabled i have no restart button, so i can't force a new mission, does hitting 'play' on a no-save game that used to be a saveable game ensure you're getting a clean mission?

when i had cleared my steam mission cache the problem would go away, and the mission would run fine, until the next time i updated the mission in the editor (even if no changes are made). other players of my mission experienced the same thing.

thanks!

@SaOk, i checked on my computer, its getting the latest pbo without asking for admin rights

My impression is that updating a mission while being subscribed to it causes the upload to be corrupt somehow

It should be fixed in dev version on Steam, could you please try it?
Thank you.
