Arma engine doesn't allow you to take out AI units silently if they are grouped to other AI units.
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The second you kill an AI unit the others in the group are immediately alerted even if they are on the other side of the island.

This is true for arma 2 and 3 (so far).

I've just done some testing and "alerted" describes it quite well. Teammates are set from safe to aware. They do NOT instantly know where you are and triggers don't activate on "detected by opfor" automatically. So in your missions you should put the enemy back to "save" regularly i.e. at waypoints.

Anyways the change in awareness should be removed.
