Lowering/raising weapon on the move stops movement!
Reviewed, WishlistPublic

Description

Lowering (and in some cases raising) your weapon while moving causes a temporary stop (just like in ArmaII).

Lowering always causes a stop, no matter the movement speed. Raising the weapon is fluent while walking and jogging, but causes a stop while sprinting and during combat pace.

I haven't managed to replicate this when raising the weapon. It appears smooth. But it certainly does do it when lowering it and there is a distinct momentary pause.

I have to correct myself:
Ctrl*2 won't even raise weapon,
only primary mouse button (fire weapon) will do it,
and for me it stops movement for a moment (during the animation).

Tested again:
When raising weapon

  • in combat pace: movement stops for a moment.
  • when running: movment don't stop (but not completly fluid - weapon is raised then lowered slightly according to the running animation)

I can agree that this needs to be fixed. It completely ruins the fluidity of MOUT combat. While clearing buildings, etc, that hesitation is definitely noticeable.

Another one of those ARMA quirks that a lot of us overlook because weve gotten used to it, but yep good point hope they can smooth it out.

Reproducable in latest dev build.

Edited title and description, since this only applies when lowering, not when raising the weapon.

Please test it in combat pace (the jogging with weapon up)

In combat pace it also STOPS when RAISING!
(at least for me)

For me too it stops both during raising and lowering (2xLeft Ctrl)

Ok, just tested all speeds and updated title+description accordingly.

If you watch AI move about, for example while they're following you in formation, you'll see them transition between raised/lowered weapon states seamlessly - it would be nice if it was like this for players too..

There's also a mod that apparently fixes this issue, I haven't tested it yet but for research purposes:
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=21054

Also, this issue stretches a bit more than just the act of lowering/raising your weapon, after doing one or the other there's a couple seconds of "input lockout", where you're unable to do anything else within that time.

Example: Run forward with your weapon lowered and press your raise weapon key, then immediately try to change direction. You wont be able to for a few seconds, nor will you be able to stop.
See ticket: http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=4629

I use slightly modified controls from the default Arma 3 control setup:

  • delete binding hold breath to RMB
  • bind hold breath to LCtrl
  • delete binding optics to RMB
  • bind optics to V
  • delete binding step over to V
  • bind step over to LCtrl+2xW

With that set up, if the player has primary weapon raised and is moving forward at any speed, attempting to lower weapon by pressing 2xCtrl always results in the player stopping, lowering weapon, then instantly raising it again.

With the exact same key bindings, I could successfully raise/lower weapon while moving without issue in all Arma 3 versions up to 1.48.

Resetting controls to Arma 3 default removes the issue.
