+1 your right the don't go crouch once the "copy my stance" is given not at any time do they crouch even when you stop in crouched. Hope they can fix this!
It has always been like this unfortunately. Could never get it to work in A2 either. Would love to see if fixed.

I think the issue is just the name of the command... it really tells the AI to use whatever stance is appropriate for the situation.

You're right. It has been renamed to Automatic stance.
Appropriate in which way? I'm asking more specifically for mechanics. I don't think it is appropriate to, by default, stand up in open ground when set to "aware". That's my biggest issue with it. It both looks silly, but also gets them killed, and it takes too much micromanagement to do bounding over-watch with an AI squad, in attempt to both make them move fast (standing) but also crouch when not moving.
I think a dynamic stance setting based on visual cone in the defined "watch" direction (either define as a part of the formation or specified by target or compass) would work better.
Like if: cannot see *ground 15m in front, then: one stance up, otherwise: prone. - if this involves the AI first going prone, then crouch, then stand each time it changes position, it would still be better. "Lowest possible firing stance" is a basic infantry principle.
While "danger" (7-2) makes them take proper stances, this also makes them very autonomous, unsuitable for player governed tactics, best utilized with no other player interaction than a waypoint.
I may make a new "wish list" thread suggesting to replace "copy my stance" with that ("low stance" for example) or an additional AI command to 7-0 ("behaviour"-"low stance")
*ground: they should probably not be able to have line of sight with ground, but rather ~0.5 meters above it, possibly ignoring objects like rocks and trees as the likely only block a small horizational line of sight, while not ignoring ex. stone fences, and ignores all objects more than 3m away.
