Unable to place weapon/ammo crates
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

When editing a mission, currently the editor is unable to place weapon or ammo crates. If such a function exists, it should be clearly identified and show up under objects or something.

You can place ammo crates. All you need to do is click on the single man, double click on the map, change Side to Empty, and Class to Ammo. That then brings up a list of crates you can place.

Also note that if there are no units on the map, Empty doesn't show up in the Side list.

If that is the case, it should be tweaked to not have to go through all those steps to have the objects show up. Also, the fact you are seemingly unable to place crates down if there are no players seems odd. Some people like to place objects down before placing characters.

In order to get access to the Weapon/Ammo Crates and Empty entities in general, you have to have at least 1 Unit set as the "Player"(Not Playable or Non-Playable).

This was also the case in the ArmA 2 Editor, however, I would agree with you that it feels unnecessary having to do this - especially when designing multiplayer missions.

You're asking for them to change something, that has been that way since OFP (2001-2002 I believe)

Why change what works... everyone who uses the editor knows, and it is well documented

Sappo, that it has been like that since OFP is irrelevant. It is entirely unnecessary to have it like this and will confuse new users.

It should suffice with 1 Playable Unit instead of 1 Player Unit.

I agree that one player unit should be present when defining objects since a player unit is necessary when testing the mission. With the lack of a 3D editor, I would want to preview the mission to ensure objects are placed where I wanted them.
