Game Version number: 1.3.0.170
Modded?: No
Issue Description: This is a major bug. It is too often that crew members get killed because of some explosion near by, even though the vehicle itself received zero damage from the explosion. Even the simple grenades thrown under LAV or BTR can kill crew members in some cases.
This makes armored vehicles feel like they’re made of cardboard, undermining their role as protected transports. Realistically, crew survivability should depend on the vehicle’s armor integrity, not just proximity to the explosions. Armored vehicles must offer decent protection from explosions.
This happens mostly if explosion was close enough to the soldier.
Right now, a $3 grenade defeats a 10-ton armored vehicle. That’s not realism — that’s a bug.
- There is a small demo: https://youtu.be/MGq7i5W8M9E?si=s4SAyrf2lUjVLU54
- And another demo with LAV's HEI-T: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDgarXW9UBc
- The same applies to the helicopters rockets. And i guess to any type of explosions in the game.
- Also armored vehicles (BTR and LAV) cant stand mines at all. In real life maximum damage that blast mines can cause to such vehicles is a wheels destruction and temporary concussion. But in the game mines kill all of the crew members above them, cause a lot of damage to the vehicle and catch them on fire.
- This bug probably also applies to the body armor. I just dont know how to properly test it. I hope that u can figure it out.
- After some more testing i think explosion damage can ignore a lot of things, not only armor. Like walls, doors, ceiling, its just OP.
Moreover - this problem goes further - to the modded vehicles. They suffer A LOT from explosions, since modded guns have a larger caliber than in the vanilla game, and the explosions are much more powerful. However, they are still high-explosive fragmentation shells and should in no way penetrate the thick armor of, for example, the T-14 or Abrams. Crew is too vulnerable.
Suggestions:
- Tweak explosion damage mitigation — Crew should only take damage if:
- The vehicle’s armor is penetrated.
- The explosion occurs inside the vehicle (grenade through a hatch).
- Implement ‘spall liners’ — Reduce crew damage from nearby non-penetrating blasts.
- Adjust shockwave mechanics — Limit crew injury to concussion effects (temporary blur/ringing) unless armor is breached.
MAMA - Make armor matter again :)
