TrackIR issues November 2024
New, NormalPublic

Description

Game Version number: 1.2.1.127 experimental
Modded?: (Yes/No) No

Issue Description:

Thank you for officially implementing this very useful feature. That being said, this system has a lot more potential that is not utilized yet. These are the most noticeable problems and omissions now.

  1. Leaning is forced on without a chance to disable it from the game itself, and not everyone wants to use TrackIR in the same way anyway (only way to get rid of unwanted leaning actions at the moment is to introduce really big dead zone to the axis in question or disable that axis in the TrackIR software completely).

Suggestion: Players need to be able to adjust TrackIR controls according to their liking in the game.

  1. When in ADS in 3D scope mode (aiming through the sights) with marksman sights with 3x or higher magnification turning your head even slightly can easily make you lose your sight picture and since there are wrong visuals in the sight movements it can be difficult to center your view back to the sights.

What happens there is that if you turn your head accidentally, it does not matter which way your head turns (left, right or even up or down), the sight becomes obstructed in the same way from the left side before going completely black until your head turns further and you finally see which way your head was turning (Except when weapon is deployed, then the turning obscures the view from up and left). So when you are using small dead zones it is difficult to re-center the sights if you turn your head accidentally, since all turns cause the same effect, you can't tell by the movement on the screen how to correct it and center your view.

After some research I found out that this is not actually a TrackIR issue, but a free look issue, since even in regular free look the sight obstruction starts the same way. It just is not a problem there since the sights always re-center easily just by releasing the free look button/control, and these small movements are not the way to use the regular free look anyway.

Suggestion: ADS should either always disable TrackIR or that should be an option to have.

  1. You can't move your head position in the vehicles, like for example move your head to the right to see the HMMWVs speedometer from inside the vehicle (driver's hand and the steering wheel block it currently). Being able to move you head around would also be the only way to properly see out of BRDM driver's hatch. This too is not technically just a TrackIR issue since at the moment there are no controls to move your head as a driver or a pilot in vehicles anyway (no forward/back or left/right or up/down head movements available now).

Suggestion: Or feature request actually. Implementation of head movements (forward/back, left/right, up/down, roll left/right) when driving/piloting.

  1. TrackIR blocks the mouse look inconsistently. There are some actions like driving, using the shovel, giving first aid and getting out of a vehicle when you can normally look around and use actions using the mouse, but when TrackIR is active the mouse looking is automatically deactivated. Furthermore if you have been looking around using TrackIR while some of these animations have been playing (like getting out of a truck) the character will do a snap turn to the direction that the player was looking when the animation ends.

Suggestion: I would like to see the mouse looking to stay active even when TrackIR is detected and active. That would make it consistent and a lot easier especially in situations like piloting a helicopter, since now you need to turn your head exactly to a hotspot to make any actions, like turning on lights, available. When using TrackIR your head is turned quite a lot and it is hard to keep your head so stationary that you have time to choose, activate and finish the actions. Unless of course eventually all the controls will also be doable as separate commands so you could do them without turning the in game head.
