"Out of Memory" and DXGI Errors Preventing Game Launch and Server Connection in DayZ Stable Version
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I am experiencing persistent "Out of memory" errors and DXGI initialization errors in the stable version of DayZ. The game frequently crashes upon launching or when attempting to join a server, with the error message showing requested memory values of -841328 KB and very high memory footprints (e.g., 240773624 KB). The error also displays 0x00000001 - UNABLE_TO_INIT_DXGI.

This issue has persisted despite taking multiple troubleshooting steps, including a full system reformat, and it seems to be related to the character profile files or the game’s memory management. The DayZ Experimental version works without these errors, but copying profile files between the two versions only resolves part of the issue (the game opens but crashes on server login).

Steps To Reproduce

Launch DayZ Stable Version from Steam.
The game may crash immediately with an "Out of memory" error.
If it successfully launches, attempt to join any server.
The game crashes shortly after with either the "Out of memory" error or DXGI initialization error.

Additional Information

Steps Taken to Resolve the Issue:
Full System Reformat:

Reinstalled Windows 11 (64-bit) from scratch, updated all system drivers, and reinstalled DayZ.
Driver Updates:

Clean installation of NVIDIA drivers (also tried rolling back to earlier versions).
Updated the chipset drivers and BIOS to the latest versions.
Reinstalled DirectX using the DirectX End-User Runtime Installer.
Virtual Memory/Page File Adjustments:

Increased virtual memory to 16 GB and later 32 GB.
Ensured proper allocation of page file size.
DayZ Configurations:

Deleted the DayZ.cfg file and let the game regenerate a new configuration file.
Copied the DayZ Experimental chars.DayZProfile to the Stable version. This allowed the game to launch, but it continued to crash when attempting to join a server.
Created a fresh character profile, but the game still crashes with the same memory error when joining servers.
Compatibility Mode and DirectX Settings:

Tried forcing DirectX 11 using Steam’s launch options (-dx11).
Ran the game in Compatibility Mode for Windows 8.
Disabled Full-Screen Optimizations and ran the game with the Bulldozer parameter.
System and Memory Monitoring:

Used tools like MSI Afterburner and HWMonitor to track RAM and VRAM usage during gameplay. Both were within acceptable ranges.
Ran Windows Memory Diagnostic, which found no issues with the system’s memory.
Mods and Cloud Sync:

Disabled all mods and ensured Steam Cloud Sync was turned off.
Deleted all DayZ profile data and tried a clean start.
Lowered In-Game Settings:

Set textures, view distance, and shadows to Low.
Reduced resolution and other graphics settings in DayZ.cfg.

Additional Information:
Operating System: Windows 11 x64 (fully updated)
GPU: Palit GeForce RTX 4090 GameRock OC (24GB GDDR6X)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X
RAM: 64GB DDR5 (5600 MHz)
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME X670E-PRO WIFI
Despite these extensive troubleshooting steps, the issue remains unresolved. DayZ Experimental works fine, but DayZ Stable crashes with the same memory error upon launching or server connection.

Hello tonna.
Please check the following:

  • Delete the DayZ documents folders completely
  • Verify the game data through Steam
  • Make sure enough memory is allocated
  • Make sure all your drivers are up to date and there are no corrupted files or installations on your system
  • As last resort, you can try the following:

Open the DayZ launcher
Select PARAMETERS menu
Select ALL PARAMETERS tab
scroll down and check "Bulldozer" parameter
Launch the game
Once launched, close the game
Uncheck bulldozer
Launch the game again without any parameters

Geez

Hello Geez,

Thank you for responding and the suggestions. Unfortunately, I have already followed all of the steps you outlined, including:

Deleted the DayZ documents folders completely and allowed the game to regenerate them.
Verified the game data through Steam, ensuring no corrupted files.
Allocated ample memory and ensured both RAM and VRAM usage are well within limits during gameplay.
Updated all drivers (GPU, chipset, BIOS) and confirmed there are no corrupted installations or missing system files.
Additionally, I had previously attempted the Bulldozer parameter method:

I enabled the Bulldozer parameter, launched the game, and then closed it as instructed.
After unchecking the Bulldozer parameter and launching the game again, the issue persisted.
Despite following these steps multiple times, the "Out of memory" and DXGI errors continue, specifically showing requested memory values of -841328 KB and a high footprint (240773624 KB). The problem occurs both when launching the game and attempting to join servers.

I've also explored further options such as:

Testing different GPU settings and even considering a different GPU to see if the issue is hardware-related, given I am using an RTX 4090.
Disabling mods and Steam Cloud Sync to prevent profile conflicts.
If there are any additional steps or advanced diagnostics I could try, I’d appreciate your guidance, as I am eager to resolve this issue.

Best regards,
Tonna

Hey tonna, my friend had a similar issue and managed to fix it by doing this :

Launch DayZ Experimental
Load into a server
Exit the server to the menu, and create an in-game character
Close dayz experimental
Delete the contents of the "DayZ" Folder in documents
Paste the contents from the "DayZ Exp" folder in the documents, into the empty DayZ folder
Launch regular DayZ again and try to join a server

I hope that helps
