Heyo, I wanted to talk a little bit about the ambient sounds in DayZ at the moment.
I know you guys have heard it a million times from so many people....saying "the old ambient noises were better"
I also know recently some efforts were made to improve the ambient sounds in game which was a nice little touch.
Recently in the podcast discord, a community member ( Aki ) made a good observation about a difference between the old game and current game :
The wind sounds...
In the old game, the wind was much less noticeable as a whole, it was a bit quieter and also generally there was much more periods of time where there was almost no wind. This gave the player time to appreciate all of the other ambient sounds and have a nice moment of peacefulness, just getting immersed in the environment.
The current game doesn't really seem to have this, it feels like the wind is just constant....it never seems to end and it is really loud. Everywhere you go the wind is just constantly playing, drowning out all of the other noises and making it hard to really appreciate them. I think this is a big part of the reason why people often feel that the old sounds were better, simply because you had more opportunities to just relax and take them in without the constant WHOOOOSSSHHHHH in your ear xD
Anyway, ofcourse I'm not saying to remove or even lower the volume of the wind. But rather I would suggest to add some weather presets where there is almost no wind....A moment where the wind just almost completely goes away and gives that sort of "eerily quiet" feeling, amplifying all of the other little noises.
I think this would be really sick and something that people who enjoy the ambient noises will really appreciate. And also in general just giving players a new type of environmental experience to feel....Thanks for reading
And happy 10th birthday to everyone at the office. You guys are fkn phenomenal and I cannot wait to see where the future will take us. Much love <3
