i was having stuttering/hanging problems. so after uninstalling reinstalling my video card drivers, removing all mods, uninstalling dayz, removing all configs, and basically wiping my computer of dayz -- i reinstalled. I had also checked my hard drive to see if it was having SMART errors but everything was fine.

i loaded an official vanilla, mod-less, dayz and walked into into a field and stood there. i used CapFrameX to record 10 minutes of data of me simply standing.

Using the software I was able to see that I was hanging exactly every 148 seconds. This happened regardless what my video settings were. Draw distance didn't matter and I didn't move a muscle. in the 10 minutes of standing, i completely hung 4 times. the total stutter was 22 seconds so approximately ~5 seconds per stutter of completely frozen dayz. i was able to install and test on both an NVME drive and classic SSD, the hangs persisted.

you can see in the clips that something seemed to be accessing the hard drive very heavily during the freeze.

in the end it forced me to uninstall all steam games and then completely uninstall and remove steam and all of its folders in the various application data and common directories. once i wiped everything out and reinstalled steam and dayz i went back into a field and recorded.

the game felt smooth and there wasn't any more lengthy 5 second hangs. however you can still see (and measure) that there is some kind of spiking happening every 148 seconds. Thankfully the game is playable again for me and I have no idea why uninstalling steam was the solution, but something is happening in that period which can cause users to hang. There are lots of search results for random hangs.

I think it has to do with windows trying to put data in temporary memory or something like that.

Certainly something is going on like that but I also removed my windows paging file and set the management of it to 0 on all drives. I have 32 gig of ddr3200 so it's more than enough to run dayz without needing to write virtual memory to cope.

In the end something about removing steam was the solution. No other steam game gave me this issue only dayz. So I opened a ticket because perhaps something in dayz triggers something else and that method/process can be tuned a different way to not cause the spikes.

There's lots of threads on the Internet describing this issue and everyone's solution is to "run dayz on an SSD" well I did that and the issue persisted. In fact I've always had dayz on an SSD and it ran fine up until recently so... Was it a dayz update? Was it a steam update?

I wish I knew. Hoping bohemia devs might.

Hello darren_co.
We have tested this extensively but unfortunately we are unable to produce this issue.

Hello.
If you are using a Ryzen processor, it might be a processor related issue since Windows 11 has some issues with Ryzen processors.
Firmware TPM is one of the known issue.

I have no idea.@tiny fishing

Hello,
experienced a very similar issue:
a regular freeze for a few seconds every 2 minutes i would say... checked files on steam, tried vsync off, low video settings, reinstalled the whole game. No effect at all...
Found this post so I did remove all steam games and steam app...
Problem still stands.

So now I'm looking at how to check the following:

"I think it has to do with windows trying to put data in temporary memory or something like that."

I could be wrong, but it may have something to do with the fact that a component on your PC is overheating.
first ist not your gpu maybe your cpu? what cpu do you have?
and did you try to deactivate steam cloud ?

Hi thanx for reply.

The issue you're describing, with stuttering every 148 seconds, is quite unusual. Here are a few additional steps and considerations that might help:

Check Background Processes:
Ensure there are no background processes that could be causing the stuttering. Use Task Manager to monitor CPU, memory, and disk usage during gameplay.

Update All Drivers:
Besides the GPU drivers, make sure all other drivers (chipset, network, etc.) are up to date waffle game Windows Performance Settings:
Adjust your Windows performance settings for best performance:
• Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > Advanced system settings.

• Under the Performance section, click Settings and select Adjust for best performance.

Check for Software Conflicts:
Sometimes, software like antivirus programs can cause conflicts. Try adding DayZ and Steam to the exceptions list of your antivirus software.

Power Settings:
Ensure your power settings are set to High Performance:
• Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.

• Select High Performance.

Game Settings:
Even though you mentioned that settings didn't seem to matter, try lowering or adjusting specific settings like shadows, textures, and post-processing effects.

Check for Disk Activity:
Since you noticed heavy disk activity during the freezes, use a tool like Resource Monitor to see what processes are accessing the disk.

Clean Boot:
Perform a clean boot to see if any startup programs are causing the issue:
• Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.

• Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Disable all.
