[Feedback] Feedback on the Current Helicopter Flight Model Implementation
Feedback, NormalPublic

Description

I would like to provide feedback regarding the current implementation of the helicopter flight model in the game. While I appreciate the effort put into creating a flying experience, I believe that the current model falls short in several key areas. In particular, there are several factors that are not taken into account, which greatly impact the realism and immersion of helicopter flight. I would like to highlight these areas for improvement:

Lack of Main Rotor Torque Counteraction:
The current flight model does not incorporate the need to counteract main rotor torque. In real-life helicopters, this is a critical aspect of flight control, as the torque generated by the main rotor creates a tendency for the helicopter to rotate in the opposite direction. By neglecting this factor, the flight model fails to accurately represent the challenges of maintaining stability and heading control.

Absence of Ground Effect:
Ground effect refers to the aerodynamic phenomenon that occurs when a helicopter is flying close to the ground. It creates an increase in lift and a reduction in induced drag, which significantly affects the helicopter's performance adds another point to master which is landing. The current flight model overlooks this crucial aspect, resulting in unrealistic behavior during takeoff, landing, and low-altitude maneuvers.

Missing Cyclical Management:
Cyclical management is an essential control input for helicopters, allowing pilots to adjust the pitch of the rotor blades at different points in their rotation. This control input is crucial for maintaining stability, controlling roll and pitch, and executing precise maneuvers. The absence of need to manage the cyclic in the current flight model makes it so the pilot's is able to perform unrealistic maneuvers and compromises the authenticity of the helicopter flying experience.

Lack of Rotor Strain and Limitations:
Helicopter rotors are subject to various forces and limitations, including blade flapping, coning, and retreating blade stall. These factors affect the helicopter's maneuverability and impose restrictions on extreme maneuvers, which can even lead to the breakage of the rotor. However, the current flight model does not account for these rotor strains, allowing for unrealistic maneuvers that would not be possible in real-life scenarios.

Lack of Wind and Weather Effects:
One crucial aspect missing from the current helicopter flight model is the influence of wind and other weather conditions. In real-life flying, helicopters are significantly affected by wind speed, direction, turbulence, and other weather elements. These factors play a vital role in flight planning, maneuvering, and overall flight dynamics. However, in the current implementation, helicopters seem unaffected by these environmental factors, leading to an unrealistic and simplified flight experience.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that enhancing the helicopter flight model by incorporating these crucial factors will greatly improve the realism and overall experience of flying helicopters in the game. Taking into account the need to counteract main rotor torque, implementing ground effect, introducing cyclical management, and simulating rotor strain will provide players with a more authentic and challenging helicopter flight experience. I appreciate your attention to this feedback and look forward to seeing further improvements in the flight model.
