Heyo, I wanted to share some thoughts about the realism in terms of the audible range of suppressors in DayZ.
So, as it stands right now in game, no suppressed weapon can be heard beyond 150 meters. However IRL suppressed weapons are often much louder / much more audible than this even at longer ranges.
Here is a video from Garand Thumb which showcases this :
https://youtu.be/54UPMgSWHzU?si=8lCZrPe9lPlLH6Ej&t=1120
The video link above contains a time stamp. (18 minutes and 40 seconds) At the time stamp, the video shows the sound of suppressed .45 acp being shot towards the camera at 300 yards distance. (274 meters)
In the video, you hear 2 sounds for each shot, you hear a "pop" and a "zip" sound.
The zipping sound is the sound of the round flying over the microphone. (it is subsonic so it doesn't make a "crack")
The popping sound is the sound of the actual weapon being fired (with a suppressor)
As you can hear in the video, the pop of the weapon firing is still clearly audible at that 270 meter range, and that is only a .45acp round being fired, you can imagine that bigger calibres would be even louder and more audible. The video even showcases .300 blackout still being audible at that range also, although it is slightly quieter than the .45.
It would be really nice to see the audible range of suppressors in DayZ be increased to be more realistic, especially for higher calibres like 5.56, 5.45, 7.62x39, 7.62x54 and .308. I think all of those high calibres should have atleast an audible range of 250m when suppressed, with some potentially being 300m. This would also be more balanced from a gameplay perspective as they aren't just completely silent and deadly even at such short ranges.
Thanks for taking the time to read <3
