Multiple issues with AI
Reviewed, NormalPublic

Description

So today I was shot in the head through an engine block on an official server, yesterday two of us were killed through a hill just outside of Mil Base Chotain.

These have been going on since Day 1, I even put back a ticket about hit registration months ago and it hasn't been addressed it appears, since you still need to empty an entire magazine into an AI at close range to kill them.

Today and yesterday though, I have been shot through engine blocks in the head not the legs as it didn't wound me just killed me. The AI has accuracy like they've been trained by NATO special forces, meanwhile as we know by lore the Resistance on Everon all but was killed off by Guba's forces, all senior leaders were killed on the attack after Armstrong left the Island with James.

Yesterday I was shot through a hill multiple times by the AI, the AI can still see through grass whether you guys want to believe it or not.

AI can also take multiple explosive rounds directly on them, or within 3 feet of them and still keep walking, if this happens to a player we die immediately.

I'm done testing until you guys pay me for the testing I've done if you want me to continue to do so, I'm not gonna voluntarily buy a game and do 15 to 20 hours of testing for you guys which seems to be all I do in the game, since I get bugs every single game, and no I won't make this into 3 separate issues since they are all connected, and I've made multiple trackers about this without any results.

Steps To Reproduce

Engage an AI on the hillside, of a shallow hill with your grass on and the AI will beam you through the grass perfectly even though you can't see them on your screen.

Engage the AI pop yourself out and then pop behind the truck, you'll still get hit with the bullets that were meant for you even if you're behind the truck.

AI also are able to take multiple 203's directly on them before they drop.

@Geez you can pay me now to actually test your game, since I'm finding stuff you can't fix, I'll be sending BI and invoice if you guys chose not to.

@Geez that's not actually fixing the issues or saying you're working on them I reported the AI a while back about the resistance to damage and nothing has been done. Are you guys actually able to fix this?

The feedback has been sent to the developers. Once I have more information I can update the ticket further.

So this the same for all the AI tickets I've made... What are the devs concentrating on right now? And is the script language still the same from the other games or is it a newer script language? Because I used to code for OFP and ArmA 2, and found an issue and reported it to the testers for A3 in a scrip that got fixed as well once we figured it out on discord. (One of the testers filed it for me)

@Geez

  1. Issue with the AI not dying from grenades has been fixed for the most part, the new "Shock" damage aspect still is a bit unrealistic since I've seen AI get up after being blow up by a 203 still, rare but it still happens. (Partly fixed)
  2. Shooting through engine blocks, this has been remedied and I haven't had any issues with this since you sent it back to the devs, so that seems to be fixed. (Fixed)
  3. AI shooting through hills has been fixed, I haven't encountered anymore issues with this, so good job on reviewing the collision maps. (Fixed)

This has been on-going since ARMA 3 days, and possibly earlier.

The root of the problem likely is server resource load (CPU/MEMORY) causing AI reaction delays. The easy fix is to increase AI abilities to far beyond human abilities. (eg. AI now act super human) With increase AI abilities beyond human abilities, you'll now likely see AI sudden appearances and sudden reactions, as well as very exact shooting skills such as shooting in between vehicle sheet metal weak points, with the round seemingly moving around the engine block anomolies, hitting you straight between the eyes while you're now directly within a safe spot directly behind the engine block. (eg. server/network latency)

I've already clearly explained, while within the game with other players, through Bohemia feedback tickets/bug reports; when in doubt, reduce the AI ability, else risk needlessly enraging players. Most player agree with this statement, whether direclty or indirectly, as you'll see most players playing on only AI games rather than player versus player, averting server latency, whether computer server resources or network latency related problem.

WORK AROUND:
Most players will play on AI only games. This reduces many of the problems, however, not the root of the problem as AI are still super human at times. In other words, player versus player games with AI included, server load is likely enormous, especially on player versus player games. On AI only games, you only have to worry about slowly going after the AI, rather than being pushed along with real enemy human players (player vs player) and then also contending with the super human AI abilities.

For me, I am just ignoring most of the player versus player content on the official Bohemia ARMA Reforger game servers, and focusing on building and supplies, and sporadic AI troops. If red team wants to overrun the base quickly, oh well. Besides, most beginners use blue team.

Ditto. This occurs due to the AI skill level likely being increased beyond super human abilities. Once the skills are above super human ability, the AI will shoot out towards three to five mile out objects with a high degree level of accuracy, similar to an anti-air gun but using sniper rifles. Rolling on the ground while prone, will also get you dead far quicker than simply scooting over. Bumping-up the AI skill level is simply a hack for not fixing the high server CPU/Memory resources, and should never be used as the affects only significantly negate game experience for players.
