When using the turret in the BTR-70 or HMMWV with mounted .50 cal, the belt will often glitch and only give you the round in the chamber after you have reloaded. The bug seems to relate to the inventory system with the turret. After firing the one round in the chamber, you must reload every time. Also, in spite of having other belts loaded in the turret they are not counted in the UI ammo counter in the bottom right.

Hi, I‘m not sure this problem occurs in every game environment. As far as I‘m aware, this happens on mp servers with conflict (at least the pbs server :D)
Does this occur in singleplayer mode or other servers aswell?
Got some more Details on this:
Test 1:
MP - Game Master on an official Server
HMMV:
hmmv mag count initially shows 0 - after reloading it seems to have 5 mags (which cannot be found in the hmmv inventory) - after depleting the 5 mags reloading the mh2b may play the reload animation and timer, but after reloading is done, there is still an empty magazine. Further you're only able to reload if you have mags in your backpack, doesn't work with mags in the vehicle inventory. (During Testing the M151A2 i realized, that contrary to hmmv, you can access the turret as a vehicle inventory, which you can't do with the hmmv - see pictures)
M151A2 (with m2)
contrary to the hmmv, you can find all magazines in the vehicle's inventory, adding more magazines to the vehicle inventory increases the magazine count on the gun - seems to work as intended ?

same as hmmv, you cannot access the guns inventory, you only have 1 mag to play with - when reloading, animation and timer works, after reloading process is finished, no magazine is added, you can't shoot anymore
going to do further testing with other assets, haven't got more time atm
Conclusio
Most Turrets are defect, since you can't access their inventory therefore not reload them (m2 hmmv, m2 nest/tripod, pkm nest/tripod), M2 Turret on M151A1 seems to work as intended (you can also access the turret inventory)
For BTRs the functions of the turret seems to be dependant in which game environment (sp, mp) or even scenario (Game Master, Conflict) you're in. Basically you can always access and reload the turret. In SP and MP Game Master the turret seems to work as intended, in MP Gamemaster the btr turret doesn't show the right magazine count (always 0) and only shows the right count during reloading process.
Reports (as from OP) shows that in some circumstances the btr turret seems to reset ammo count to 1 after some time, after the first reloading.
Further tests i'd suggest:
- testing same setup on some conflict servers to confirm infos below
- testing as host to check if this is a client-server thingy (is this even possible in reforger?)

basically the BTR shows mag count just as OP described. if you get in as gunner, the btr shows 0 mags count.
While reloading the mag count shows the right amount of magazines available
Further in the test environment (MP - Gamemaster on official servers - servers: 11027902 / 11027899) the turret seems to work as intended -> the ammo count doesn't reset to 1 after some time, mags don't unload themselfes

what i've seen until now:

when magazines in the turret are shot empty, the turret accesses the player inventory and takes available ammo from there (Tested offline in gm)
I have an update on a trial of mine today. Location, Arland, server empty, 15 boxes 50th shot through. HMMWV. No problems.
Note : I also had this problem some time ago, it was a BTR, the server FPS were very bad at that time and many players were kicked out etc.. I had it that I could only load 1 shot even though the storage of the vehicle was full. The chambers also went crazy. I had loaded the MG, but had 0 rounds, but I had ammunition for the heavy MG.
My guess is a network thing. By not registering the reload. How do I come to this assumption? A player in my vehicle had this in BTR about a week ago. He couldn't fire the gun even though I had it loaded. I switched to the vehicle, the belt was empty. But he did NOT reload or do anything else. He just occupied the seat. Then he was able to fire after I reloaded.
ARMA 3, I had the same problem with the T100 with AI players in it. The MG had 7 belts, but could only fire 1 shot before it had to reload. I solved this reloading problem by having everyone get out, then the belts worked fine again. I don't know if that was the solution. Since A:Reforger is based on a different engine, you probably can't compare it.
