At the current state of the game the Dark nights are unrealistically dark, making it impossible for some players to see even their close surroundings, even on full moon nights (does moonlight even add to the visibility? I'm not sure). The human eyes can adapt to darkness pretty well over the course of a night, however, none of which is represented in the game as of this writing. Both these issues result in reduced playability during the nights on servers with the Dark Nights setting for many players; especially those with older monitors or graphic cards that don't support the usage of filters, leading to a widening gap of competitiveness between rich and poor players. The personal light is deemed unrealistic and considered only a crutch by many.
On the other hand, the Bright Nights are way too bright, barely having any impact on visibility.
The darkness level during nights really should be able to be adjusted by the server owners, by using a floating point number where 1.0 would represent the current Bright Nights and 0.0 the current Dark Nights.
