Can't hear game chat when streaming
Reviewed, UrgentPublic

Description

Since the update people watching a DayZ Xbox Streamer cannot hear game chat via Twitch.
I noticed that another person has reported a bug today that when in party chat you can't hear people in game chat either.
Please look into it asap as it's affecting Xbox streamers content. Hearing conversations between players is super important for creating entertaining and valuable content.

Hello SmileysGotAGun.
Can you please check if you have this problem in another game as well with the same setup?
Regards,
Geez

Game chat in Arma works. Doesn't seem to be a twitch issue either as clips taken directly via Xbox don't include game chat either.
Definitely Dayz only.
Really need this fixed guys.
Xbox players, streamers and content creators are really suffering atm. Quite boring watching someone stream and only hearing the streamer talk and not other players.
You can view on my twitch vods (SmileysGotAGun) and other Xbox streamers such as TheGreedyPeasent and Half_Goblyn.

Hello SmileysGotAGun.
"clips taken directly via Xbox don't include game chat either" this is correct behaviour, same goes for not hearing game chat when you are in party chat.
If we exclude these two circumstances, is there still an issue?
Regards,
Geez

No. You are incorrect.
You could always hear and record game chat in clips taken directly via Xbox, you can't hear or record your own voice but you can hear and record what others are saying in game using game chat.
And you could always hear people talking using game chat when you are in a party. You obviously can't talk back but you could hear what a person in game using game chat was saying.
I have hundreds of clips of both circumstances that I can send you.
This has changed since the last update you did.
And we still have the issue of game chat not being heard in live streams. Xbox streamers are really suffering right now because viewers can't hear what players are saying.
Please have someone look at this in your department that plays Dayz on Xbox

Hello SmileysGotAGun.
We are currently investigating the scope of the problem and will re-check if everything is in order. Thank you for your feedback/concern.

This also killing rp servers and making rules hard to enforce them.

I'm also suffering from this issue. VoIP cannot be heard on twitch stream.

Not being able to hear the voip in recorded clips and through stream is severely harming people ability to make creative content with this game. As stated previously done servers are affected by the fact that they cannot enforce rules. If someone were to use innappropriate Language or say harmful things to another player this would be hard to prove to a server owner or to anyone for proof for that matter. It would be the complainants word vs the Accused. In which case it would be hard to make that judgement call as to who is in the wrong if there is no evidence.

Hello everyone.
We have checked thoroughly and everything works in order as it should.
a) Party chat - When you are in party chat, you cannot hear people in game chat. This is the default xbox behaviour and should work this way and there were no changes to this on our side.

b) Since the update the people watching streamers cannot hear game chat via twitch - this is also correct behaviour. We are aware that in previous versions this has behaved differently, however it never was an intention for it to behave the way it did before and it actually was a bug. The current state is the way it is supposed to be as required by Microsoft in order for the game to be available on the Xbox platform.

Geez

There are countless other games that record in game chat. Is there a way to talk to microsoft, or maybe to see these terms?

This has put a huge damper on the creative content coming from the people who have enjoyed this game for a long time. Many people that create content on youtube, make creative video shorts, and Stream video content from this game can no longer do that without somehow dubbing their own audio onto clips of the game,

Also there are Loads of community servers rented by private server owners and it is extremely hard for them to enforce the rules of their servers without being able to have proof that something was said in voice chat. I could understand the Official servers having this if that is the way it must be, but surely the private community servers should be able to record the voip from their servers that are paying for?

This is official a huge downfall decision of BI. No disrespect to the company but you need to listen to the consumer if you guys wish to keep getting content. We love DayZ but if you keep taking away from us it can lead to a downfall. This is def nor some little thing you guys have taken from us. This is a huge deal.

@Geez have two ppl be in a party, load up the game log in to a server & then once in a server & next to each other both people leave said party & attempt to communicate via in game chat (please do not attempt this in the same real life setting as the other player). Then close out the game do it all over again minus the joining a party part & see if the chat still works because I don't think you understand what we the community are telling you. There is a bug in the game that is prohibiting the players from communicating via game chat. It's not a one player thing or is it strictly a console problem.
Also play Insurgency: Sandstorm & you'll see that "a)" is incorrect in regards to not being able to hear game chat while in a party on Xbox. Also I'm pretty sure that's not something Microsoft can require of game developers & publishers

@DJMECHO you must have missed this part

as required by Microsoft in order for the game to be available on the Xbox platform

Hello Trav.
We have tested the issue you have described according to the information you have provided but we did not produce such an issue on our end. Every time we leave the party chat, the game switches to the game chat immediately. Is there any other info you could provide?

Geez

@LouMontana Its was never announced and can't find anything on it through the web about it. Kind of weird that it seems to be only BI that got hit with this and no one else.

When it switches back to game chat can people hear you talking in game the problem isn't the icon not appearing it's that if I try to speak to people in game there is no transmitted audio going through the mic into the game. the characters mouth moves but thats it. Unless it's a specific server based problem (server NY 7561(1st Person)) I don't know how else to possibly generate the problem except joining the team in the test & walking through the steps. I'm getting on today to try again. Also double tapping the PTT button switches the input mode this has just been confirmed

@Geez plus using voice activation at a setting higher than default doesn't register or produce an icon I just put my mic into my mouth nd yelled no icon popped up however at the default setting the icon is visible at all times

I understand this seems to have been marked as “intended”— but wanted to again raise the issue for a serious second round of consideration to please reimplement this bug/feature.

When inside Xbox party chat you SHOULD be able to hear if someone else in game talks nearby via game chat. Enabling interactions between players like that is what makes Day Z so fun— and without this ability over the last few months the game has become less fun and I’ve noticed the community servers I’ve played on have dropped significantly in population— largely attributed to this bug. This also makes discord modding very difficult because a common player behavior is to sit in party chat with your crew, and now you won’t be able to hear if another player is attempting to rob you from a window (“drop your gun now or you are dead” situation)

IF UNABLE to revert back to the old system due to an Xbox privacy policy please consider the success of Warzone 2’s proximity chat system: When in Xbox party chat even though I am unable to hear enemy voices I can at least SEE AN ICON to visually represent if someone (or multiple people) speak within xx meters. This enables me to choose to quickly switch to gamechat and take part in a human interaction that Day Z has in the past offered (“hey let’s team up for a bit” instead of just shoot anyone else because they can’t hear you).
