DayZ 1.17 Experimental - Longhorn Sound Effect too quiet
Awaiting internal Testing, NormalPublic

Description

The Longhorn's sound effect is much too quiet. Remember - it is a .308 rifle cartridge being fired from a very short barrel. That the muzzle velocity is lower due to the short barrel does NOT reduce the sound of the discharge, quite the opposite in fact. Generally speaking the shorter the barrel the louder the discharge is from the same caliber rounds. So the Longhorn should at the very least be as loud as the rifles, and carry as far from the shooter.

Get a longhorn, shoot it - and weep because of the feeble sound effect. ;-)

Yeah Wobo just confirmed the Longhorn cannot be heard further away from the shooter than just under 800 meters. I understand this is most likely an intentional design to make the Longhorn more of a "king pistol" than what it actually is - a freak weapon shooting rifle ammunition from a pistol sized frame. I plead with you to reconsider this - dig out the old Longhorn sound effect from Legacy and use that - and make the sound carry as far as any other rifle.

Please!

Edit - do consider the sawn off BK-18. It is about the same size as the Longhorn and shoots a smaller cartridge - but currently in 1.17 exp it is MUCH louder. This is simply inconsistent.

(And don't get any ideas about nerfing sawn off BK-18 sounds, it is fine!)

Definitely agree with this. DayZ seems to be struggling pretty majorly with sound design. For a game like this, louder = better...and also way more realistic. A lot of guns in dayz are overly quiet or cant be heard beyond certain amounts of distance that just make no sense. Longhorn should be loud as fck, its a short barrelled .308 ...and the audio range should travel just as far as the winchester or blaze

This issue is not resolved. The Longhorn sound effect still has not changed in 1.19 experimental. As is, the .45 acp DERRINGER is louder than the .308 Longhorn! Please @Geez I know this is a minor issue to most players, but could you see if someone just forgot to push the update? If the sound effect is intentionally low then I'll just mod it, but I'd prefer not to have to...

I would like to add that not just the loudness, but also audible range should be very large for the Longhorn. Damage is VERY underwhelming too but thats a bit of a different issue
