Mods Won't Download Properly
Need More Info, UrgentPublic

Description

This is for using the Steam launcher only, nothing 3rd party. It takes a lot of work for a lot of people to actually get any workshop update. It'll sit in que and won't download at all or it'll say it's updated when it's not. There is a problem with PC's delinking files from !Workshop and not updating.

I've found a work around, but for the average user it's very difficult.

  1. Shut the launcher down
  2. Quit dayz
  3. Unsub from the mod
  4. Go to !workshop folder
  5. Delete mod
  6. Empty trash
  7. Start Dayz
  8. Subscribe
  9. In Launcher Load Mod
  10. Join

On the day 1.11 deployed I had 4 major mods just refuse to update even though it showed the pbo's updated to the date and time of the author update. Something is definitely going on with Valve. We've got dozens and dozens of our players having this issue now with all mod updates. I saw a lot of people in the DayZ Expansion help desk having the same issue.

It's very difficult for players to follow the ^ steps for the average person.

I even had to host a few files for players because Valve refused to update. The mod was @MuchStuffPack by Helkiana and the files were MSP_Scripts and the MSP_Scripts.pbo.HelkhianaV2.bisign files. Helkiana is a top modder and knows her stuff, it's not like some obscure modder('s) we're having issues with.

This is a major issue that's persisting with every mod update coming through Valve.

Please fix immediately!

Hello Weyland.
If you are experiencing such issues, can you try to verify the mod data as shown here?

Regards,
Geez

Hello,

Not sure, haven't tried. But it's every single mod update that comes through from any modder, not just hers. It's an issue with Steam and it's killing our project which is already hurting as it is.

Best,
-Weyland

This is STILL a major issue. Loads of reports in DayZ Expansion Discord at 1.11, everybody we know around the globe is having the issue with ALL mod updates. I'm going to have them come over and comment I guess. So many people just go to a different platform instead of signing up to a site and fumble around until they figure out how to make a ticket. A STAR ICON doesn't translate to a lot of people that's how to open a ticket. This system is designed to fail.

thi is an issue with any server running dayz expansion, may be any server, any expansion server i join you have go through the above steps to resolve, last night it was every player in our discord. Your suggested fix does not help.

Hello Weyland.
Have you tried to contact Valve support? We are of course looking into this, but it appears like an issue on Valve's end and if that is so then there is not much we can do on our end.
As for the difficulty navigating through phabricator - there is a full guide on to how to report on the tracker posted on our forums - https://forums.dayz.com/topic/238467-how-to-report-an-issue-to-the-feedback-tracker/

Hi Geez,

Yes actually, first thing I did. They basically said it's your problem. I've attached the entire conversation with them.

I'll tell you what I told Impuls, you're not getting loads of reports on this for a few reasons...

  1. Signing up here at the feedback tracker is currently broken. I got loads of people trying to sign up and they can't.

User known as Spaace in my project...

Several users failing with the same errors...

How long this has been going on, unknown...

  1. Everything was fine until the same exact date and time 1.11 hit. This absolutely rules out Valve. DayZ Expansion discord, so many people were having this issue and they weren't understanding why and might still not know what it actually was. Reading their help area, I knew what it was because it effected me getting certain mods up for 8 hours. Took 8 hours and tickets with Fragnet to figure out this issue.
  1. We use Fragnet for a GSP and have switched over to automated updates through Scheduled Tasks with their Admin Control Panel. For some reason it works perfectly with them as a GSP. End users, does not work. Some sort of communication with end users+steam+dayz workshop on the exact date and time of 1.11 isn't happening.
  1. In the past, I've seen this happen with DZSAL. When we update any mod, DZSAL users wouldn't get the update without doing a bunch of clicking inside DZSAL. If you look at DZSAL's help channel, you'll see this issue all over the place. DZSAL tweaks something and it works for a while. We've seen people not get an update 7 days later. Something with the communication between DZSAL's client app and Valve. This is now happening with the DayZ launcher since 1.11. This is a DayZ issue.
  1. I'll tell you what I told Impuls, end users don't like the feedback tracker. A friend of mine Klesh who was a closed pre-alpha tester, computer geek, brilliant person, degree in sociology...I tried getting him to sign up at the tracker. He couldn't figure it out and immediately boycotted it.

I'm hardly a dummy, I've got a pretty high level of education and built several websites. I had zero clue that a Star icon means to open a new ticket. Never ever seen anything like that in 25+ years on the internet. I couldn't find my ticket history either. Why would that be attached to my Profile, not user friendly.

Point?

Gamers don't want to read a tutorial on a forum on how to open a ticket Geez. I can barely get players to change their in-game name, never mind sign up to a website, spend time to figure out a star icon is a way to open a ticket and send a ticket. I have to make video's for players to do basic things. This entire bug tracker is extremely convoluted and not user friendly. I can't even get most people to use a ticket bot on Discord, all they have to do is click the bot, read the instructions to open a ticket...it's a big to-do.

People end up not reporting with this system and move onto the next best alternative (in this case DZSAL) because they want to get in game, not jump through several hoops to fix a game...it's that simple.

At the end of the day, everything was fine until the same exact date & time of DayZ 1.11 being deployed. This issue has leveled our project to almost ashes. People leave.

Best,
-Weyland

The issue with unavailable registration is being looked in to already and it hopefuly will be fixed as soon as possible.

As for the issue with mod updates, we will still investigate and try to debug this on our end in case there are any problems we can fix, however, if it is an issue on Valve's side then we cannot promise something can be done.

Geez
