Experimental launcher can't automatically load mods and affects stable launcher's mod cache
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Hello. I have noticed that when starting the launcher in Experimental it will scan the mod folders and report that the mods you are subcribed to have been installed - but it is unable to load them automatically afterwards. If you want to join an Experimental server with mods on it, you need to manually navigate to the mod folder and instruct the launcher to load it from there, and then join the server with that preset ("keep current selection and join"). The automation is simply not working for Experimental.

To make matters worse, this action of the Experimental launcher affects the launcher of the Stable branch. If I close the launcher and instead launch stable, the launcher will flag every single mod as "Updated" even though they haven't actually been updated. It still works as expected to join servers though, but the false flag is confusing and downright scary for me as a server owner...

Steps To Reproduce
  • Open DayZ (stable) launcher, find a modded server and join so it subscribes and downoads a number of mods.
  • Confirm that it works to join server.
  • Exit
  • Open DayZ Experimental launcher. Launcher scans the mod folder and reports all subscribed mods as installed - but the mod list is empty.
  • Find an Experimental server with mods and try to join - launcher can't find the mods.
  • Use the function "Local mod" to navigate to your mod folders and instruct the launcher to load the server's mods from there
  • Join server using option "Keep current selection and join"
  • Exit
  • Now open DayZ Stable launcher again - and see how it flags all the mods as recently updated although no updates have been published
Additional Information

This issue makes it very awkward to test mods on experimental, for that reason I flag its severity as Major.

Any news on this? Launcher still behaves like this in 1.12 experimental.

If this was solved there would be more modded community experimental servers - and the current situation with mods not loading (T157911) would have been spotted before stable.

This is still an ongoing issue almost a year later, are there any updates or workarounds?

Still an issue in 1.17 experimental. The launcher cannot connect with the workshop to subscribe to mods, nor can it locate subscribed mods on the computer's Steam installation. If a player wants to connect to a modded experimental server they need to manually add the mod as a "local" mod by navigating to it in the workshop folder.

The launcher also still scrambles the log for the Stable launcher so it looks like all mods have been updated.

Hello everyone.
The problem has been fixed internally and the fix will appear in one of the future updates.
