Does it hit the ground or just detonate early?

If it's the former, then does it happen on all maps, or just VR? How big is the target? Flat ground or uneven terrain?

I tried on Malden north-east airstrip
Targets were Varsuk, Angara and Gryphon jet.
Distance ~440m
Flat airstrip
