[PRIMARY REPORT] 0.49 - 0.58 Performance and graphics issues
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Its a real pity because I love this game. But after the new update to 0.49, my char runs directly after joining at extreme slow motion and the houses are missing their textures and sometimes all walls as well. I have made screenshots which I attach.Graphics drivers are the most actual ones.

I have not changed any of my resolution settings or anything since 0.48 but the result is completley different and makes the game unplayable.

Then, after 1-2 minutes I normally encounter a "server lost connection" countdown ( no message received ... ).

I am confused, up to version 0.48, everything was fine on stable. Now the problems from experimental 0.49 have been transferred to stable, too, at least for me.

Hi to the Dev Team,
look, all this discussion of graphics problems is all very nice and I really hope it gets fixed but I get the impression that very few players are actually getting anywhere because their characters are dying of cold and lack of food within a half hour of re-spawning. That is, if the uber-zombies don't kill them first. Have you not seen ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE and all the other movies? Humans should at least be able to out-run a half-rotten and shambling zombie. :)
Instead, we get super-zombies who take massive damage and seem to be able to punch down doors with iron fists.
By all means fix the graphics but the NEXT priority should be fixing the broken "hypothermia" and "starvation" rules, not spending time on developing new weapons no-one is going to survive long enough to use. DOOM got it right - the basic game could be played and won with one pistol, one rifle, one shotgun, and one chainsaw (just for fun).

I had it appearing again ... nothing changed, unfortunately...

I can now play DayZ Experimental with no bugs or FPS problems, but stable does not work.

Hi survivors,
there have been some tweaks on the Experimental version which might have improved the issue - those of you using the Experimental build, please let us know if the situation has improved.
Regards,
Andy

The latest experimental seems to fix it, but it still happens every 5-10 minutes for a second - as if the world refreshes. Thank you! It was impossible to play before.

Same here - does not happen "immediately" but randomly when approaching/entering a house and lasts for 1-5 Minutes in average.

after updates in experimental branch this problem begin again.

Been over 4 months since I bought this game.. Have yet to actually play it because of game breaking bugs like this.. sigh

hy Andy I played the latest exp yesterday evening. I didn't encounter big fps drops, but the problem which textures on walls, cars, houses don't load still persists :-/

edit: This ticket wasn't made with the newest Version.
But I had the same issues yesterday, but didn't screenshot it

0018269

Played on experimental today, and after 5 minutes it happened again - missing or bad quality textures and low-poly models, and very low fps. Flushing, and rejoining server didn't help, only full game restart did.

This is one of the most game breaking bug this game haves right now, i have this bug since more than 1 month now.

Is this shit fixed yet? This is so dumb :(

Played Experimental on the weekend, the issue is still there. The AA Low-to-Off/ Off-to-Low fixes it but it recurs after 10 minutes or so. I've also been having game crashes at least once a session lately. Game lags to a standstill and either goes low FPS or crashes. Loot is kind of weird now, the Police Station in Dolina had a ridiculous number of backpacks and shoes, but not much in the way of weapons. On the upside, I haven't died of hypothermia or starvation lately. So I got that going for me, which is nice. Not so nice is the random character wipes and local (Northeast US) servers with good ping and zero players that I can't log into no matter how long I "Please Wait..." That being said...still got totally psyched by the Truck Teaser video 'leaked' today.

I haven't seen an ammunition case in 86 years.

Staff whats new?((

It happens to me on ArmaII Dayz mod as well. It looks like it's a texture/vram issue. I have a R7 250X with 2056MB, so I don't understand how it could be an issue. I will try to lower my texture resolution today and see how it goes in the new patch.

I just played the 0.5, and it happened again, in exactly 10-15 minutes of playing. I was getting 35-155fps in Three Valleys, and then my CPU or GPU fans went crazy for a few seconds, after which it all froze and unfroze after a bit later, with 7fps and low-poly graphics.

My Textures were set on medium, objects on medium, and everything else on low/super low.

I was playing Arma II Taviana Overpoch/Origins, and it helped me to "Shift-Flush" every 10 minutes, but it rarely helps to "flush" after the big lag. Hope this helps!

Same since... i don't know how long.
The mini-bus (burned out) and the house facade are extemly flickering.
Also the windows of buldings like ATC or houses like in electo are, depending on the zoom-Level, full gray closed or open. Or doors are open or closed.

I have a Nvidea GTX 560 DDR5 1GB (the graka which do you recommend of the game)
I3 Intel
16GB DDR3 RAM
Samsung SSD

this problem still not fixed in 0.50 :/

The graphics issue is listed under KNOWN ISSUES in the latest log - it has not been resolved yet, I don't think.

Known Issues:

Items do not update their state properly (durability/wet). Moving them, or relogging will refresh.
Server crash
Performance deteroriation

Can we fix this shit already?

Played for 3 hours last night with no issues! NWAF was a loot-a-palooza! Nobody shot me in the face! Can't wait to check out Novaya Petrovka. Thanks dev team.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64
Intel D945GPM
Pentium D945 3.4
Galaxy GT 430
OCZ Gold PC2-5400 3Gb

Still no fixes? Anyone? I have windows vista 32 bit also. Is that the problem or what? I used to be able to play fine till .49 screwed me over.

I fixed my issues temporarily by making my overall setting to low, very low, or normal. This has made the game playable again.

seem stuff decide forgot about this small problem :/

Unfortunately this is very serious and has already taken too long to be resolved. It would be nice to know how it goes so far.

I probably won't be fixed until the new renderer

i fix this problem, install win 7 64x

Some people cannot up and install win7 x64 so this is not a fix especially when it worked fine on 32bit prior to the latest updates and really well to boot.

@ahtawulfa, so you will have a problem here, because 64bit cures the bug, and as i read, 32bit will not be supported when the game is finished, so dont except that the devs will make big work to fix problems that occurs ONLY on 32bit system, you should think about it

and install it, win7 64bit is free, and with the rearm command in win-shell/commandbox you can made it up to 180 days for free ;)

greets

opster yes 32 bit is the problem

V1ruS added a comment.Nov 19 2014, 3:16 PM

Anyone else getting SERIOUS performance issues with .50 Stable, even though the "Nintendo 64" graphics problem has been solved?

Before on my system (i7 4770k, GTX 780Ti, 16 GB, Win 7 64Bit) I used to get approximately 60-80 FPS in the countryside, and around 40 FPS in the larger cities. Settings on mostly high.

Now? 35-45 FPS in the countryside, 20-25 FPS in places like Novo, Cherno and Severo. Horrific performance and just about unplayable. What are the causes of this? The latest update is the worst in months regarding performance.

Hope this gets fixed soon.

EDIT: Seems this is related to the server being under a lot of strain due to the bugged "lootsplosion" problem - when the maintenance hit stable today my FPS problems were gone.

I will be formatting C:/ and installing a 64bit system next week. Hopefully this bug is fixed in it. As previously mentioned, the game did run good before the 0.48 or whatever patch.

My speculation is that because of persistence and flawed loot spawning mechanic your 32bit system gets overwhelmed (of the large amount of "dynamic" objects" or something. 64bit may be a sollution.

I will write back as soon as I reinstall next week.

People have had this issue though even with 64-bit prior to the .50 and graphic issues are still listed as KNOWN issues in the last log indicating nothing has actually been done to fix it as of yet and I surely have not see any staff say its been resolved. But I look forward to your update. I have to buy a new mobo in order to do 64-bit but I am looking to build a new machine anyway but certainly not for this game - I guess I will just have to deal with the issue as 256 vid seems to stabilize it for me at this rate...;_;

My new HDD and 64bit OS will be delayed, I will update as soon as I upgrade. Reinstalled Dayz experimental yesterday, after 3-4 minutes my game froze for a moment, and after a minute it started lagging as usual. (I spawned in Novodmitrovsk, the more loot or buildings around the faster it lags out for me)

It had stopped on stable and experimental for me for a couple weeks now with the last experimental update it has came back!!
Andy any news?

Just an update I was able to play with Low to Normal settings with 512mg today on my Win7 32bit for the first time in weeks without the graphic glitching (tearing) if it seems like its just about to but it does not. I played for a good hour. I was very happy to see things in focus again lol...I hope to play a bit longer next time to fully see the latest updates impact. Thank you.

das added a comment.Dec 8 2014, 7:43 AM

It's still there. It has the tendency to fix itself if I look down the ground, but as long as I raise my head it's there again. I'm on W7 32b but that is NOT the problem. It's in no way a "solution" to change OS to play a game, as it's been proposed before.

Yes it happened to me after 20 mins yesterday but looking around did not help and I am also experiencing crash errors upon exiting the application. Oh well back to 256 and practically no settings haha

das added a comment.Dec 8 2014, 2:46 PM

Does 256 actually work? I have tried it, it delayed the occurance but after all it did happen...

256/disabling everything I can (clouds even) and keeping it at very low and way outside of my resolution range (not 100%) is the only thing that keeps it from tearing and it looks like complete crap but at least I can play lol and i play in windowed mode as well

It still happens ... and the game freezes, when I run, every 2-4 seconds for a few seconds ( but remarkable ) since the update to .51. The FPS drop to 2-4 while this happens.

e_xil added a comment.Dec 10 2014, 3:56 PM

install 64bit os, or live with that bug, its dayz sa, you know: shitty engine and too much devs *cant do anything* (;)

I won't start a general discussion about what the devs do or not - but up to now, they have researched every "case" I opened and found solutions to most of them. This graphics issue is certainly huge and affects loads of mechanisms in the game - hence we do and cannot not expect a short time solution.

This page is here for reporting issues which I did when I reported this one.

If you don't like what you get - "shitty engine", etc. why don't you go playing something else until it's all to your liking? Meanwhile, we do what we are here for: Testing the game and giving feedback.

e_xil added a comment.Dec 10 2014, 3:55 PM

so you run 64bit os and still have this issue? if you run 32bit, you should read the comments

sorry but i was reporting too, very long, and i like the game till now, but look at the "tiny" bugs which are ingame since ever, its really dumb

your char move and stop moving, just while you do some other action, dropped loot is spawning next room above or beneath..etc pp

THIS bugs shows very intensive how shittey the engine is, and sure, the devs do something, its their job, but you know, i dont think they can really do good job ..BECAUSE of the shitty engine

Hi, bought the game yesterday. Sadly i got this bug too, where the game stops loading textures properly and fps drops to like 2-5.
I can fix it with changing shadows from very low to very high (the game just reloads textures i guess).
Shouldnt it be relatively easy to fix this, since you know the bug fixes itself when changing various graphic settings?

andy added a comment.Jan 6 2015, 1:48 PM

Hey herbzy and sorry to hear about your trouble.
The bug "fixes" itself only for a short while and the performance issues will pop up again soon - thus this short-time workaround is not really an indicator of how to fix this.
We are continuously looking into ways of improving performance and I believe there have been quite a couple improvements in this regard - however, your patience may still be needed.
Thank you,
Andy

Switching to 64bit windows solved this bug for me as suggested by some users.

herbzy added a comment.Jan 7 2015, 2:22 PM

Ordered win8 64bit, wanted to upgrade anyway. Have win 7 32 bit right now. Cant really play with that bug. Ill report back as soon as i tried playing with the new windows.

The game works now with 64bit version, bug is solved. Thanks for pointing out bezvolos.

I gave this fucking asshole devs months to fix this problem.. I have yet to play this game for over 6 months and now im fucking getting a refund

Finally moved from 32 bit to 64 bit problem solved for me so far good luck everyone hope this is fixed soon it has been ongoing way to long somebody needs to pull there finger out!!

I will be moving over to 64-bit too next week and hopefully it will utilize all the RAM I shove into its butt lol...here is to more DayZ playing on a better system :) thanks for all the info and help the past months and I will update once I get it all in place ^___^

Still no fix huh?

Just bought a new vid card specifically for dayz (old one crapped out.) Didn't realize this was going on with 32 bit windows -_-

I seem to run extremely well until i hit major cities. then the drop in graphics and fps hit me hard. Unfortunately makes it completely unplayable.

Yo dudes! I believe I can narrow things down a bit more but you really have to stick with me for this one (in terms of train-of-thought):

  1. I bet every one of you get the exact same error when playing Arma 2 or Arma 2 OA... try it, even if the graphics dont go all polygone for a while you should still notice that things are lagging when running, zooming and turning around. It's the same error which will lead to the polygone mess sooner or later.
  1. I am pretty sure that I did get the same issues (maybe not as bad as it is now) about one year ago when I installed Arma 2 OA and DayZ SA for the first time on my new PC. The graphics didn't go polygone back then, but I had the lag when zooming, or running and using scope and ironsights. Also turning around was very laggy.
  1. I can't remember what happened, but for some reason or by the intervention of some deus ex machina, I suddenly was able to play even on high populated wasteland/dayz servers on high settings without any graphic-lag. And I really can't remember what I did to fix it.
  1. I begin to think that a combination of events affected the performance of my Arma 2 and DayZ SA - Because the only tweaks I ever did on my new PC back then were:
  2. I unparked my i5 cpu cores (which I later learned was kind of pointless since it only works with i7)
  3. I did the manual "unawave"-thingy (google "unawave") to allow my win7 32bit to use more than 4GB of ram
  4. I was never able to install any other NVIDIA driver than 332.21 because every attempt to update the drivers ended in a BSOD during installation or later during reboot. So i had to stick with 332.21 - until now.

Because now my fresh installed win7 is completely up to date and I have the latest NVIDIA drivers running (also bios, chipset, etc...) but Arma and SA are lagging worse than ever before.

I begin to think that I should repeat the steps with unparking cores and/or using NVIDIA 332.21, and see what happens.

----

To me this error feels like there is something overflowing or repeatedly returning NULL values, or something. It's as if the whole enviroment and all objects are getting piled on top of each other instead of getting unloaded at some point.

(edit)
specs:
win7 ultimate 32bit
i5 3450 CPU @ 3.10GHz
8GB RAM
NVIDIA 660ti

(edit 2)
Could it be that there is something like a capped maximum amount of objects that can be drawn? I am asking because I've just noticed that my character goes all polygone whenever I am looking at a lot of objects. If I turn away the game still lags and has the same symptomes but suddenly my character looks almost normal again for a second or so.
So, every time I turn to face a lot of objects it seems that the engine reaches some kind of 'max. amount of objects' and can't flush the objects which are not needed any more and therefor my character starts to look really bad. Coincidence?

(edit 3)
Another thing I've noticed is that whenever the polygone-lag occures the game crashes way faster when you choose to keep running. If you stand still the error doesn't disappear but it will take much longer to crash the application - and sometimes it doesn't even crash.
It looks like it's piling up data and can't flush it in time.

(edit 4)
I've just found out that the reason why I never could install any other NVIDIA driver than 322.21 was the "unawave" tweak which was suppose to enable my win7 32bit to use all of my 8GB ram.
So, for updating and using latest NVIDIA driver I'd have to boot the "un-tweaked" version of Win7 to avoid BSOD

Paper26 added a subscriber: Paper26.May 8 2016, 7:59 PM

Will my problem get fixed also?
My game freezes down to 1 or 2 FPS every 20 to 30 minutes and all textures get reloaded.

I've noticed that whenever the polygone-lag happens, my ressource monitor shows an increase of "hard faults" (aka. "page faults") in memory tab.

To me it looks like there is a problem during memory dump or accessing the page-file...

(edit)
nope, I was just monitoring the wrong process. No hardfaults during the polygon lag.

install 64bit win.. !

sorry, but installing 64bit win can't be the solution - and in fact it is not since 64bit win introduces a lot of other issues, not only in DayZ

Ok, after all my testing I can clearly say that there is no error traceable on my PC

  • Process explorer (no DPCs "deferred procedure calls" or memory leaks/spikes/lags)
  • Nothing wrong with my harddisk or I/O
  • nothing wrong with my drivers (all updated and no conflicts or corrupt drivers (according to SDKs 'DPC Latency Checker')
  • No lag-spikes on my GPU

All this was tested before and during the actual appearance of the polygon-lag and there were absolutely no indicators in none of these tools that something might be going wrong. No spikes at all.

So, since I now get those polygon-lags in Arma 2 OA too (again!!!), I am really "sad" and I beg you guys to fix this game-breaking bug before anything else.

TOP PRIORITY!!! ...please :p

(and in the end it turns out it's all because of crappy BattleEye again - or Steam... or both *sigh*)

han_yolo - you talk much but dont try to install 64bit? there are many issues on win, no matter if 64bit or 32 bit, so dont talk shi*

i tell you that this problem was gone after i installed 64 bit, not a single one of this issue (bad graphics - fps near zero)

so take it or leave it

im also not happy with the bad "looking into cities bug" where you get so low fps, but this bug with grpahics issue na dalmost zero fps is solved when installing 64bit

you know, this hint is no solving of this problem in complete, but as player you can play then.. so .. end.

e_xil, you obviously did not read/understand my posts so read again or bugger off.
Your tip about 64bit has NOTHING to do with my problem. You get it now?

any news? game still unplayable... for lots of players in fact...

Yes, unplayable.

I bought a new PC for playing also DayZ and I have less than 15 FPS in cities:

i hope so! maybe then we will get a new status-info!

So I have bought a new pc with a msi gtx 960 2g vid card, 64bit win 8.1, 8g ram, i5 4690 quad core and while it moves a million times faster and I can finally see all the spectacular graphics there is still some issues performance wise but I have not run into the tearing issue but I have not played more than 20 mins so once I get some more time I'll update again. Thanks so much.

Hello Community.
We haven't had reports about this issue occurring in a while, could you please let us know if anyone is experiencing this issue still?
Regards,
Geez

Outside of the lack of loot on persistence disabled servers, the glitches, tearing and low fps have dropped for me completely when I upgraded.

This issue is not fixed for 32 bit but I will be upgrading soon so it wont be a problem for long.

Yeah, I think the requirements need to be adjusted entirely because everyone who is on 32-bit cannot properly use their full RAM and this game definitely requires more than they indicated upon purchasing the alpha version.

Still happens on win7 32bit.

This bug is still very much present :(

Hello, since my original report has been closed, I'll update here.

This bug is still occurring for me, unchanged, making the game unplayable.

Is there a chance for this to be corrected before the new renderer or will we get this until you replace the whole thing ?

It's so annoying and kinda make me actually regret to have paid for a game I couldn't play for months now.

I bet a large part of the impacted community just got desperately tired and switched to other games while waiting for the game to improve... that's why you did not get recent reports of this. Frustrating.

Yep, problem still occurring. After like 10-20 minutes, my FPS drops to like 5, and textures around me turn low poly, like buildings and zombies. Tried deleting launch parameters and deleting the DayZ folder, but the problem still persists.

Running on Windows Vista 32 bit by the way. Please fix this for 32 bit.

Riggs added a comment.May 11 2015, 9:27 PM

I filed a report on this last july when it was the 0.47 build. Got no response and it's still happening all the time on 0.56. Changing my OS is not an option as i was sold the game to work with 32bit OS.

Hopefully it gets fixed with the new Engine this month.

I am currently experiencing this bug. Its frequency is varied. SOmethings I can play for hours without issues, but other times it comes every 30 minutes. I am currently on a 32-bit system if this helps at all.

One location I can easily replicate it is at Chernaya Polana. This city always causes this issue where textures do not render properly, when looking at a door I cannot tell if it is open or closed, and when I enter a building the walls become invisible.

I use to be able to do the SHIFT - FLUSH, and this would typically give me another 30-90 mins before the bug occurred again, but in the last 24 hours it has not been rectifying the issue.

Please let me know if you require any information.

-Billy Pilgrim

hey folks, its truly sad that the men in charge of bohemia cant really help, so lets help ourselves out:

here is my solution (worked for me)

more fps (and sady less range of sight)

set in the dayzprofile file the three params to the values, that fits for your pcs (just try), in my case its:

sceneComplexity=100000;
shadowZDistance=600;
viewDistance=1200;
preferredObjectViewDistance=600;

(every one of this has something to do massivley with fps)

the dayzprofile file is found in:
C:\Users\*username*\Documents\DayZ

and is named:
*username*.DayZProfile

greets and keep watching

@roseina: man just install 64bit, im sorry i dont think the man in charge at bohemia will ever fix this memory lag/issue

so to play the game "properly" at least with this issue - INSTALL 64 bit!

When the Windows 10 upgrade came, I decided to install then 64bit. I haven't experieced any Graphics issues since.

i still do have this issue with windows 10 64Bit and decent gaming PC

most of the 3d models (wheels of Truck, walls, houses etc...) lose their texture and become a very low poly model.

@Geez maybe close this ticket as obsolete?
