this absolutely is NOT realistic..
when you swing an axe, you're aiming for something. preferably something you're looking right at. hitting something that's in your arc is a reasonable occurrence, but you're more than likely going to adjust your swing to meet your target. the system now does not adjust your swing (it can't) but it should at least ignore the objects in the way and allow for the swing to follow completely through and meet the target in your cursor.
upon further analysis, the issue is solved. torches and slipping axes are usable in standing and crouching positions
That's not how human eyes work. That screenshot is fantasy. Stop spreading it like a bad STD.
Because this isn't a video game, it's a literal remote control application of a real person seen through real lenses.
It doesn't matter if you think the screenshot is a fantasy. This is a game and pitch black nighttime with no illumination ruins the experience.
i feel that the picture i posted is absolutely realistic and a reasonable goal to attain for nighttime scenery. this specific location is bright enough that colours would and should stand out that way. while it wouldn't hold true to every location, this location and similar locations should look like that.
while i agree that night time in reality is dark enough that you can't really make out colours well, it's still light enough to see where you're standing and even make out your most immediate surroundings. DayZ nights should be just like that. Very well lit and shaded immediate areas, say 1.5m radius of very good sight around you that progressively gets darker and harder to see as the distance and the darkness increases.
other games are able to pull it off and if the always nighttime servers issues isn't going to be fixed easily (by enabling localization for the region that the server is in) then the nighttime, being the primary way people are forced to play, should be up to par with what a player needs. it's a black mark on the game when you HAVE to boost brightness and gamma just to see where your feet are landing.
i'd LOVE to be able to rely on the flashlight 110% but you just can't. the radius is much too small and the lack of reflection, refraction and ambient lighting coming from the flashlight to light your surroundings makes using the flashlight more tedious than it should be.
night time issues have plagued this game since the mod. they should really be a higher priority than they are. this isn't about making the game easier, it's about making it more reasonable.
