Make sure the version the server you're playing matches your client version.
This happened to me when my game was updated to Rev. 113772 but was on a server of an earlier build.
Filter your server list to your client's revision number.
EDIT: You should see the revision number in the top right of the main menu screen (e.g. mine says something like Version 0.28.113772 so I filter for 113772)
