Is there any way or us to test things in-game (preferably with a friend) without joining an actual game and ruining it for everyone by joining just to attempt suicide? :-)

From my experience fall damage currently seems way overpowered, though that is contrary to what you've experienced.
Falling something like 1,5 meters have taken away half my hitpoints.
