You just have to restart Steam (it often happens to me, restarting Steam should fix it).

Running exe directly works same way.
Just for info.

Attempt to reboot the computer. Also after installing can you Validate your Steam files? (https://support.steampowered.com/maintenance.html?ref=2037-QEUH-3335)
Have you got issues with any other games that have been purchased on Steam?

Great ;) Steam data are on cloud so it should be all alright.

Thank you for your feedback.

Does anyone still experiencing same problem?

I was able to work around this problem by uninstalling and reinstalling Steam.
Anyone else having this problem please note that, if you choose to reinstall Steam, you will also have to reinstall all of your games. But, if I am correct, any achievements and save data should remain intact (please correct me if I'm wrong).

I will upload the files from C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\DayZ\ for you again, in case anything has changed, as "Working DayZ Troubleshoot.rar"

Thanks for the support, komin. Please let me know if I can continue to provide any further information.

  1. I will disable all other programs/utilities that I can and try again.
  1. Nothing is overclocked.
  1. I will disable all other programs/utilities that I can and try again.
  1. That is correct. Here's more information on my graphics card. http://www.game-debate.com/hardware/?gid=490&graphics=Radeon%20HD%206550D
  1. Correct. 3x2GB

Edit: I followed the steps above. Still experiencing the problem.

Your problem could be caused by multiple things:

  1. Outdated software - try to update your antivirus and other programs to latest version and then start steam as administrator and run the game (also you can try disable antivirus protection completely for couple of minutes and try to run the game without it)
  1. Hardware overclocking - if you have overclocked HW, try to set it to default values
  1. Special software - if you are using some special programs/utilities, try to disable them
  1. Graphics memory issue - its probably not it but from your DxDiag it looks like your graphic card is using only 512MB of memory. Can you confirm this?
  1. RAM memory issue - DxDiag says that you have 6GB of RAM memory. Is that correct? If so please write to comment here if its 3x2GB, or 2x2GB + 2x1GB or different set of modules.

This issue was processed by our team and is being looked into. We thank you for your feedback.

Please keep the issue monitored to see when it is fixed.

Ran Steam as Admin. Didn't fix the problem.

I have uploaded and attached the dxdiag and DayZ files here as "DayZ Troubleshoot.rar".

Try to run Steam as Admin (right click on Steam icon on your desktop and click on Run as administrator).

If it wont help send us your dxdiag and files from this folder: "C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\DayZ\"

Can you pack the files in winrar and upload it somewhere please?
When the *.rar will be smaller than 2.097k, you can attach it here. Thank you.

I purchased the game today, and am experiencing this problem.
I'm running on Windows 7 64-bit.
No other games have given me this issue.

Steps I have taken to fix it:
*Restarting Steam
*Running directly from .exe
*Rebooting computer
*Verifying integrity of game cache
*Reinstalling the game
*Disabling in-game Steam Community

Nothing has seemed to help so far.

Please let us know if you are still able to reproduce this issue in latest Development build. Thank you.

Just got the same error message. Have had the game almost since public release and this is the first time this error occur. Tried everything listed above with no luck. I'm not so fond with re-installing steam right now, so I'll wait with that to see if I can find another solution.

Will notify here if any progress is made from my side or if the error still occur.

Thanks

Oh, forgot to mention I uploaded my "C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\DayZ\" folder as Jim_DayZ.zip and my DxDiag as Jim_DxDiag.txt.

Hope the files are to any help.
Please tell if you want more information or uploads of other files and I'll provide them ASAP.

I have a similar issue, but none of the solutions above did anything :/ When I run DayZ from the steam interface, my screen goes black, I get a waiting cursor, then it pops back to the desktop. Running DayZ.exe directly does the same thing, but with the addition of a popup that states "Unable to locate a running instance of steam".

I uploaded my folder and dxdiag above, I don't know what to make of it though. Anything that might help would be really appreciated

Thanks!

NVM I got it to work by opening C://User/<Name>/My Documents/DayZ/DayZ.cfg and changing the Windowed value to 1

This should be resolved by exiting DayZ and Steam and then starting Steam up "As Administrator". Steam sometimes likes to mess around.

Alternatively you can try the fix suggested by Joereaper.
