Steps To Reproduce
To reproduce: find a food/drink item on the floor - move to it, hit tab to bring up inventory - BEFORE you move it from vicinity pane to inventory pane, right click and eat/drink as applicable.
THEN move it to your inventory and try again - will likely get 'you are already using something' message, no matter how long you wait.

I've had this problem as well. Sometime unequipping items or moving the food directly into your hands helps

I've had this problem while holding an axe and trying to eat something in my inventory. I have to move the food to the hotbar and select it to eat it.

I can confirm for myself the best temp fix is to place food and drink on the hot bar and use from there.

This issue can be reproduced by drinking/eating an object without having it inside your inventory, picking it up and then drinking/eating it from the inventory.

What I have found is when you get that message and your trying to eat say a can of beans, hit the eat option 2 more times and it will work on your 3rd attempt every time.

This problem occurs becsuse item can not be moved directly from Vicinity window to Hands window (yet).

If you have this message, simply redo the action when the character is not doing anything else. Then your character should do it.

I believe a further issue is related: has anyone experienced the "Error putting item in your hand" message? I've only had it happen since the latest update, and occurs after the "You are already using something" message.

whenever something like this happens or error putting item in hands. just keep clicking the red x on your holding box. i usually just click it about 5-10 times then try again it usually works, if not smack the x some more.
