Arma 3 error 0xC0000005 STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION
Assigned, WishlistPublic

Description

A memory crash that has been plaguing my Arma for several weeks. I have made several attempts at fixing it to no avail. It doesn't seem to be linked to any particular event in game. It is also isolated to Arma 3 specifically.

Brief overview of specs:
AMD FX-8350
GTX 970
12GB RAM
Windows 10 64-bit

Steps To Reproduce

It happens randomly, having mods enabled or disabled seems to have no effect. It also happens in every game mode that I play: Koth, Wasteland, Altis Life, ZGM, and other random used-created missions.
The crash usually occurs within 5-30 mins of gameplay, if not while loading the game mode. Also crashes when I Alt-Tab, but not as often.

Additional Information

I have tried:

  • Verifying Files through steam.
  • Restarting.
  • Deleting mpmissionscache.
  • Modifying startup parameters.
  • Switching to dev. branch, playing, and switching back.
  • Modifying priority in task manager.
  • Updating drivers and windows.
  • Running steam and Arma as administrator.

I put a DxDiag file inside the crash report.

Attached the report that Arma created upon crashing (as a .7z).

Hey could you please try removing the maxmem parameter? Thanks!

I disabled the MaxMem parameter and I was able to play wasteland for a good solid 2 hours. But I tried to host a multiplayer Zeus mission for a few friends, and I kept crashing with the same error at the briefing map.

We managed to get the Zeus game mode to partially work by doing the following:

  1. I host and load into the server by myself and have my friends join in as spectators.
  2. Fail the mission by killing myself.
  3. Return to lobby but do not restart.
  4. Have everyone load in normally.

This gets the game up and running for a bit, but as soon as I start placing NPC's and structures, my game crashes shortly after. Also, to clarify, it is a custom mission that I am working on; a Zeus v Zeus RTS-style game mode. Not sure the mission has much to do with the crashing though.

Added a crash report for Arma without the MaxMem parameter. This crash in particular happened after placing a mortar team in a multiplayer Zeus game.

If I'm not mistaken, restarting Steam client resolves this bug.

However, when I get this Access Violation error, windebug cannot produce a backtrace because of this bug. Any debugger should be able to provide a backtrace with ease.
