D3D Error - DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED: Game is freezing at least every 30 minutes
Assigned, WishlistPublic

Description

Just bought this game and started it on Steam this morning with no mods installed. First played through the prologue and now trying to complete the first campaign mission. Ever since I started the prologue I've been getting freezes (about 6 times so far but I've only been playing 108 minutes) and an error dialog box saying

'D3D Error - DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED'.

I have to alt-tab out and close the game through the task manager where it it says the game is not responding.

Since I'm trying to get my bearings and have never played an Arma game before, I've only tried the prologue and first mission of the campaign so I don't know if it would happen in multiplayer but I feel it's likely.

I've attached my dxdiag. {F26476} {F26477} {F26478} {F26479} {F26480}

Hello, we are sorry that you are experiencing issues with our game.

Please try the following:

  1. Update you graphic cards driver
  2. Make sure your game is updated
  3. Try running Benchmark.

The most suitable for you could be:
http://unigine.com/products/heaven/
http://unigine.com/products/valley/
http://www.memtest.org/

Hi, I ran Heaven and Valley so I'm gonna upload the results. Also, I have an R9 280x and I tried the latest beta drivers for it last night and ARMA 3 still crashed. My game's up to date too. I don't know anything about memtest but it looks like it takes hours to run, so would it be more of a last resort if we can't figure out what else it might be causing the problems?

Hello, thank you for running the benchmarks. Could you please provide your Power supply model? Thank you.

Tried the game again today after I saw that installing the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer worked for some people: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

It ran for 34 minutes, froze, and crashed with the error pop-up. I'm gonna upload the two pop ups I'm getting to see if they help you.

Do I need to repost this or something?

Do you by any chance run modded version of the game?

This is an heavy problem V1.48, windows 10. GTX970, no shadowPlay, no mods.

Playing on servers, it crashes from time to time, from several minutes to more than one hour of gaming.
But right now, I just had this shit looking at the config viewer from editing a mission with one unit (player) placed!

This issue has been happening since the 1.48 update - I've been having this issue constantly. The only way to prevent it was to disable Shadowplay & all Shadowplay features.

Today I enabled Shadowplay, thinking it was fixed. Lo & behold, for the first time in months, my entire game and computer crashed.

This issue has been constant since 1.48 and BI is not fixing it.

It is an issue with NVIDIA drivers if Shadowplay crashes your game

If you read me, I mentioned a crash without any shadowPlay. Don't say you fix everything with that!

@Adam,

This issue started with the 1.48 update and only on Arma. It happens to many Nvidia users. Some with Shadowplay some without. This has been happening for months.

Shadowplay / Nvidia.works great on every game except Arma since the 1.48 update. The issue lies with Arma, not Nvidia. This has been concurrent through two graphics cards and several driver resets.

1.48 broke the game for a lot of Nvidia players, BI had to implement a patch to fix it but that only partially fixed it.

The issue IS actually with NVIDIA drivers. The reason why it was crashing so much was because of NVIDIA drivers due to some faulty stuff in the newest one. We have managed to reduce it by a bit but the issue is not gone. Arma 3 is not the only game affected by this.

Adam, this issue has been happening since 1.48 across MANY drivers on Nvidia - not just the newest drivers. When 1.48 rolled out, I was using drivers from I believe around February, if not older.

Every update of drivers since has still had the issue and the issue never occurred until Arma 1.48. I never experienced it until that moment.

I've had Shadowplay off while playing Arma for months and been fine, but I keep Shadowplay on for other games. No issues in any other game. The first time I turned it back on for Arma (last night), I crashed. The same happened with my friend, his has been disabled. He enabled it and then crashed.

I'm just saying this isn't from the newest Nvidia drivers. I was running several month old drivers when 1.48 rolled out and I started crashing immediately. Only resolution was to disable Shadowplay.

Thanks
