AI vehicle gunners can be stupid
Need More Info, WishlistPublic

Description

Piloting a Blackfoot with an AI gunner I've had numerous times where I've hovered within 500m of infantry, and sometimes literally 2m in front of enemies in towers and the AI gunner will not spot them.

Of course the enemy AI with the shoulder fired AA have no problem spotting me at 2KM away.

The AI gunners should be using their vehicle optics (thermals) to spot enemy infantry and vehicles and should be effective at spotting targets at least 3km away.

I've also had times where the AI gunner does spot enemies and fires upon them where they are behind hills. Not only wasting ammo, but how the hell did he see them anyway?1

Hello, i'm unable to reproduce the issue. The blackfoot engages the targets properly. Could you provide more info? Or a simple repro mission showcasing the issue? Thank you!

I'll get you video later. It was with the NMD sandbox on Altis.

What distances should you be able to expect the gunner AI to spot and engage soft targets?

Hello Adam.
It not only in the helicopter. Your equipment and your AI always lag behind in reaction to the purposes. You do not survive while you give command until your AI tell about the purpose, you will be killed. In the editor put the tank (you the commander), and on removal of 500 meters the tank is more red. Mission start, also manage to shoot. Will understand in what a problem. Test this scenario not once.

Enrages when my AI speak about the purpose much and do not shoot at this time. And at a big and small distance I can even the tool towards the enemy not turn.
When in the tank the radar worked, it was given by chance of AI to react to the purposes both close and far. Now even keys "to specify the purpose active, following... and others" do not work in land equipment. It as that also affected air equipment and in general AI.

In this video I give a few examples of my gunner not seeing or reacting to enemy infantry until about 50m. At the end I demonstrate how both the FLIR and cannon are effective to 2100m+ by taking the gunner seat.

There's also a part where it shows the outcome of unobservant AI. I try to stay behind cover to shoot, but am forced to fly directly over enemy territory where I'm shot down by enemy AA from too close a range to react, and without sufficient cover.

Someone on reddit is telling me that their AI is spotting and engaging up to about 1000m. I have tried everything and get the same results as my video.

Vanilla ArmA, no mods, no special missions, using the editor. Tried different graphics settings, different speeds, hovering at different distances, different altitudes, etc. I'm lucky if my gunner spots and engages within 200m.

Tried to change "beginner" - "veteran"?

I've even turned up the AI to full skill levels with no change.

What's strange is that I have one mission I created where I fly over some AI tanks before I get to my actual target. After those tanks and my gunner spot each other, then I fly 3km to the next waypoint where my gunner spots the lone AA soldier from up to 1.5km away.

So, the first spotting of enemies by the gunner seems to need them to be in his face, while the next spotting is better even though it's in an entirely unrelated area.
