Description

Every time i launch the game it crashes after the initial arma 3 loading icon, right before it launches the actual game. Event viewer tells me

"Faulting application name: arma3launcher.exe, version: 1.2.130.663, time stamp: 0x5547a898

I was having this problem myself and finally tracked down the solution. If you look in the event viewer you will notice that these crashes coincide with a critical system event that is linked to Arma3 and "KERNELBASE.dll". The KERNELLBASE.dll issue has already been resolved and is caused by the parameter "largepagefile" being set to 1 in the registry for arma3.exe. Here are instructions for the fix I cannibalized from another thread, hope this helps.

*Click your Start button (assuming you are running Windows 7)
*Type regedit
*Navigate to: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\arma3.exe]
*Check the value of the "largepagefile"
*It should be "0". If you see a "1", click the "largepagefile" and change the value to "0"
*F5 to save
Exit regedit
Attemt to load Arma as you normally would

Went into regedit, couldn't find the "arma3.exe" in that location, proceeded to add the arma3.exe key and largepagefile DWORD value, only to be presented with the same problem, using either 1 or 0 as the value nothing changes.

Hello,
sorry to keep you waiting, I've been doing some research on the error code. Can you please upload Launcher logs? Also do you have some gaming mouse or keyboard and its software (like Razor Synapse)?

---

How to get Launcher logs:

  1. Open Launcher.
  2. Click on the menu button in the top right corner (with the "Hamburger" icon).
  3. Click on the Export logs to desktop...

Are there any other ways to do that?

My launcher doesn't seem to work anymore either. Just crashes when i try to use it. This was not a problem before, i just have been using "-noLauncher" while trying to figure out what was wrong and now this.

As for my keyboard and mouse, i use a CM Storm keyboard and logitech g100s, i dont recall downloading the program for my mouse.

Yes, there is a manual way:

  1. Press Windows+R, this will bring up a Run window.
  2. Enter "%localappdata%\Arma 3 Launcher" into a text box and click OK.
  3. A Windows Explorer window opens, with a Logs folder.
  4. Compress the Logs folder into ZIP an upload it here.
  5. If there are .mdmp files besides the Logs folder, please compress them a uploaded them too.

Thank you.

Alright, i just uploaded them. Hope i did it right lol

It was working for a good while, now its back to not working again.

Does it coincide with some other program not running? I've track the error and everything suggests that the abrupt crash is caused by some 3rd party app outside the Launcher.

Could it be battleye? Everything else on my PC runs just fine.

BattlEye should not be running because Launcher starts the BattlEye service when you click on Play.
But you may try it yourself, just disable the 'Use BattlEye' check-box on Launcher's Options page and click on the Play button.

What anti-virus software do you have installed?

Currently i just have whatever comes with windows and Malwarebytes.

I bring up battleye because i'm also getting a "failed to initialize battleye" when i try to join arma 2 servers.

Hello,
I've installed Malwarebytes on my laptop and so far Launcher is running without an issue.

Could you please run Process Explorer https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx and save information about Arma 3.

  1. Start Arma 3 Launcher.
  2. Start Process Explorer.
  3. Find and select arma3launcher.exe process in the tree.
  4. Press Ctrl+D to display loaded DLLs in the selected process.
  5. Press Ctrl+A to save information to a text file.
  6. Upload the text file here.

As to the BattlEye issue, I'm afraid that I can't help you, sorry. :(

Fixed the battleye issue.

The launcher is no longer working for me, it just crashes every time i launch it. I'm updating Arma 3 to the experimental patch to see if that will change anything.

I just uploaded them, it still didnt launch but i was able to get it while it was crashing.

I'm also seeing a crash (Not Responding or CPU run) at random during game startup after the last upgrade. Also, Track IR is not being detected on initial game start until going into the Configure Controller menu. Once done, the game seems to not respond (or CPU run) while initially logging into a game server. Once the game is restarted (no cold boot), the game seems to run fine. ... An interesting issue and might be related.

@Panthrax:
Thank you, I'll go through it as soon as possible.

This "early" crash that prevents you using Launcher, does it generate an error in the Event Log with the same exception code as the one you reported initially (Exception code: 0xc000041d)

Yes sir, that's where i got it.

Also, thanks for your continued help!

Hello,
I went through the list and checked a compatibility with some apps you have, so far I wasn't successful. Also I wasn't able to obtain or test all the applications you have.

Could you try to open Process Explorer once again and kill following applications (I don't really suspect Apple apps to cause the problem, but please try to kill them just to be sure):

  • TiltWheelMouse.exe - pximouse - Pixart Imaging Inc
  • SettingsManager.exe - Settings Manager - ?
  • UM.exe - ?
  • atkexComSvc.exe - ?
  • PnkBstrA.exe - PunkBuster Service
  • AppleMobileDeviceService.exe - YSLoader.exe - Apple Inc.
  • iPodService.exe - iPodService Module (64-bit) - Apple Inc.
  • mDNSResponder.exe - Bonjour Service - Apple Inc.

0. As a precaution, save all your work in case something goes wrong :)

  1. Open Process Explorer.
  2. Go to a menu File and click on Show Details for All Processes (that may restart the process explorer)
  3. In the tree select a process from the list above, right click on it and select 'Kill Process Tree' (or press Shift+Del).
  4. Check whether the Launcher starts the game.
  5. To restore killed apps simply reset the computer.

Went and killed all of them, still won't launch. This sure is a doosey.

Hello,

could you please download and run a following app: arma.jiripolasek.com/files/panthraxlauncher.exe ? It has a single button that will start the game in the same way as Launcher does.

The other thing I'd like ask you to try is to switch Steam to offline mode and then start the Launcher. We've run into a similar issue today, so it may be related.

P.S.: I'm sorry that it took me so long to reply, I've written the post but apparently didn't post it :/

I'm on it!

I completely understand.

Well, i tried the launcher in both online and offline mode, same result. After it gets passed this (http://gyazo.com/6bacd9bc60bc3425ead50b9b3390cd56) point it just closes immediately, doesn't even try to open a new window. (although it will sometimes get really close to launching, a large borderless window opens with nothing but black on the scree, but it closes after a few seconds)

Oddly enough, it isn't giving me any more errors in Event Viewer.

OK, that Arma logo window on your screenshot actually belong to the game itself. If this window is displayed after you click on PLAY button in Launcher, then Launcher did his part in starting the game and that issues is solved.

Then we can focus on fixing game itself. In folder %localappdata%\Arma 3 are report files and dumps for the game. Could you please upload these files?

It looks like the game is loading another mod from E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 3\BattlEye\@PUBattleRoyale\ . Try to remove it and run the game without it.

Did that, same crash. Going to remove everything now and try again, though, i don't think it will change anything as ive reinstalled the game completely before and that changed nothing.

Here's a gif of what it looks like when i try to launch it. Every once it a while both of my screens go black (as if it's launching the game in fullscreen) and then it just closes.

OK, next try then: if I compare your logs to mine, then first record that is missing from yours is a PhysX initialization. So the issue might be with PhysX driver and then re-install of that might help (or might not) :/

Also, for the Launcher issue itself, you can try update files http://arma.jiripolasek.com/files/Launcher_StableHotfix1_1-46-131121.zip
It may either resolve the issue or create an extended crash report on your desktop if it does not.

That's another no for the PhysX reinstallation. I went and did a clean install of my graphics card drivers while i was at it.

If BIS Wizard performed a diff of the logs and PhysX is not being initialized, then you might seriously want to perform another reinstall of PhysX and completely uninstall and reinstall your graphics drivers. (I would perform both, reinstall of PhysX and uninstall/reinstall of the drivers!)

Ill try that

It didn't work

Hey,

Thank you for reporting the issue.
We need crash dump files from this folder to analyze your problem.
C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\Arma 3\
Can you upload somewhere in winrar package, please?
Archive smaller than 5000 KB can be attached directly to the ticket. For bigger archives, please use some free sharing service and post link here.

How to find correct crashdump file:
Try to make the crash happen
Look into crashdump folder
Upload crashdump with latest date in name (crashdump is rpt + bidmp + mdmp file with same name). Please try to provide as many crashdumps as possible, it helps us investigating the problem in a big way.

Thank you.

Sorry to hear that. I'm passing this to a colleague that is much more skilled in the ways of Arma.

Uploaded them under the name Crashdumps, hope that's the right info! Most of them are a few days old but i repeated the crash again and included that in with them.

Adam added a comment.Jun 29 2015, 9:03 AM

The bidmp + mdmp files are missing from the zip file. Could you please attach them?

All i can find in my %localappdata% arma 3 folder is the attached files, then 5 folders, titled Battleye, MonetizedServersCache, MPMissionsCache, Squads, and SteamPreviewCache. I dont see any bidmp or mdmp files.

rogerx added a comment.Jul 1 2015, 4:28 AM

mdmp sounds like an abbreviation for the operating system mini-dump files. (These are found within the operating system folders, and everybody should be able to advise of the proper folder location.)

I do not know what bidmp means.

I looked through my Windows folder and couldn't find any dump files. Not even the "Minidump" folder that is apparently supposed to be there.

rogerx added a comment.Jul 4 2015, 8:59 PM

/windows7/Windows/Minidump/

You may need to setup the system to dump minidump files to this folder because Windows is not user friendly debuggable.

CUSTOMIZING THE MICROSOFT WINDOWS MINIDUMP SETTINGS

To customize how Windows handles and creates the minidump, follow the steps below.

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, and open the System icon.
In the System Properties window click the Advanced tab.
Click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery.

Within this window you can change where this file is saved and how big of dump you want. Changing the size of this dump can be helpful if you're encountering a frequent error and the small dump is not giving you all the information you need.

rogerx added a comment.Jul 5 2015, 1:53 AM

If it's not there and you have Windows 7, you may need to read, "CUSTOMIZING THE MICROSOFT WINDOWS MINIDUMP SETTINGS" section within my above post. From memory, there's also some variables that can be customized.

I dunno if im retarded or something but once i get into "System, where it shows my windows experience index and whatnot, i can't for the life of my find a settings button or an advanced tab. There is an advanced system settings button, but that doesn't take me where i need to be.

Well i got the minidump thing all set up and repeated the crash, nothing is appearing at all, not even in Event Viewer like it previously was. Just the crash, and that's it.

So i guess i can forget about playing Arma 3 then.
