Improvement to workshop mission tagging
Assigned, WishlistPublic

Description

Currently when you're about to publish a new scenario to the workshop, you will see a flat list of tags without any context and have ambiguous meanings and tooltips. This list includes tags intended for addons with no relation to scenarios, but can appear applicable. This causes many mistakes in the application of tags by content creators which results in a poor browsing experience by end users on the workshop due to miss-tagged submissions.

There's a couple of ways to solve this or improve the situation:

  1. Remove tags from the list that cannot possibly have any relation to scenarios when publishing from the in-game editor.

This includes removing the entire addon type category and most of the data types.

  1. Add the tag categories to the in-game UI and/or update the tooltips.

Making sure creators understand that there are tag categories and what they mean will help out quite a lot. I don't believe tooltip descriptions are read a lot nor are accurate enough.

  1. Allow the addition/removal of tags from the steam workshop item page.

You currently cannot edit tags when they've been set and the only way to add or remove them is by publishing/updating your mission again.

This will also help with moderation efforts if any in the future. {F24382}

Additional Information

The attached picture shows the view creators get in the editor when adding tags. Note the lack of categories. The tooltip for "plane" for example does not specifically state it's meant for addons, but rather says it applies to "content".

I have to agree with this. On the workshop I'm very annoyed when I use a specific filter such as "Addon Type: Terrain" and scenarios pop up.

"Addon Type: Terrain" is for custom maps to be published under. Not missions. This is a rampant issue with nigh every category and needs to be fixed. This wouldn't directly address the issue in full, but it would help to mitigate more things being published falsely.
