Hosting any Internet Game now locks up the machine
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

For nearly 1 month now, myself and another friend have been unable to host an internet game for each of us to play. Seems to have coincided with Zeus or Gamespy introduction/cancellation.
Whenever we start, the game freezes and I have to hot restart the computer (my friend seems to be able to just bomb to desktop).
We can both host lan games and we are both able to join server games but not create internet games.
BI has recently changed the interface layout to have Zeus and Cart icons as well as reduce the size of the addon module icons but the interface still says Powered by Gamespy and you can still swap between Steam and Gamespy in the upper right corner (Gamespy being defunct, BI should be having all these referrals and code stripped from our machines as they are no longer relevant) {F24026} {F24027} {F24028}

Hello,

thank you for creating the ticket. I am not able to reproduce the behaviour. Would it be possible to make the problem happen and then upload a rpt file from the time it crashed?
C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\Arma 3\

Thank you very much.

Hi,
thank you for the rpt. However, I had to delete it. You should upload it as an attachment so only developers can have access to your data. Also, were there any crashdumps in the ssame folder created?
(crashdump is rpt + bidmp + mdmp file with same name)

Thank you.

Seems you can only add one file and one note at a time, I don't know which you will receive but these are the latest versions from 2 days ago. Because the game did not crash, (I had to hard reset), there is not one from today. But essentially there have only been minor module updates which should not affect your analysis

Can you please upload arma3_2014-05-28_21-03-03.rpt?

Thank you.

I have a similar issue. Game seems to be freezing/crashing when I set up my server and press OK. Found out that happens if you have the mod @AGM activated.
Maybe this is the issue here too?

@MojoDog,
unfortunately, you have to deactivate all mods and if then you can reproduce the behaviour, please create another ticket regarding your issue.

Thank you.

MojoDog & Iceman, thanks for both your responses. We also deactivated several mods, mainly those that incorporated ARMA 2 Land, Vehicles, Units and Aircraft and it seemed to come good. This was a very painful exercise due to the way ARMA 3 activates/deactivates mods now. Also some of the mods are crucial to some scenarios, so those mods (although working on LAN and Server) cannot be hosted privately on internet with a couple of mates any longer. This is kind of disappointing I would imagine for the makers of those mods and missions for the work they put especially since this was work up until a month or so ago around the time of the update that followed Zeus.
Therefore can BI do something like:
1: Liaise more directly with modders warning when they are about to change things like parameter sizes, class names etc. so they in turn can make update fixes (possibly even making available the same update tools that BI must also employ.
2: Change the way mods are activated/deactivated in the expansion by having a simpler tickbox or number (for order of mod loading) so that it can be a simpler matter of choosing.
3: Do not load mods at all, just note their locations and availability and if a mission requires it, it can load it at that time. This would be the most ideal option.

I dont have that rpt file any more, this is the earliest and I will also upload the latest

btw Iceman, we love what you guys have done with ARMA 3, I personally have logged over 1183hrs on this game, not to mention ARMA 2, Arrowhead, ARMA etc... just wanted to give feedback on some of the issues that we have had.
