When firing the cannons of various vehicles, severe FPS loss with audio distortion can be experienced during sustained fire. It happens in particular with the cannons that have a high rate of fire, such as the Cheetah/Tigris AA cannon and the A-164, Buzzard and Neophron. This happens for both the gunner and bystanders. Hello,
thank you for submitting the ticket. I was unable to reproduce the problem. For me, no FPS drops were present even after long run with Wipeout gatling or Tigris.
Could you please upload your DX-Diag?
You can find how to get your file here:

Thank you.
I had the same problem, posted about it here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?174430-Weird-sound-issue-with-Mi-48-Kajman-cannon&p=2642337
Since then I can't reproduce it anymore. I changed back to the old X-Fi Music and updated the Catalyst drivers to the new 14.4 beta, don't think anything else changed except Arma 3 patches of course. No idea what did it.
You'll have to lower the sample number under audio options significantly if you can't get rid of the problem.
I did some more testing. Dropping the sources helped. Dropping the sample rates progressively improves fps.
This confused me as that indicated the sound processing was in fact CPU bound. I did some more research on my particluar card, the Creative Labs X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI-E and it turns out it can't do any hardware acceleration or very poorly.

I close this issue as it's not in fact an issue with A3. I'll be buying a new sound card.
You will find no card that does support hardware acceleration for Arma 3, Arma 1 was the last game to support this and only old games do with workaround ALchemy on Vista and later OS. There is only software based audio stuff anymore since years, maybe it changes with the new AMD TrueAudio in the future.
Try different drivers or your onboard sound chip, or live with lowered samples. I somehow got rid of it and now can't reproduce anymore on 2 PCs, second one with the Asus card.

Issue is still persistend for many players and it's absolutely a game breaker.
Should now be fixed on the dev. branch. Thank you for helping us make the game better!
I have the same problem. Ifrit grenade launcher and all other vehicles like this make this bug.
I cant play online with this problems... when i lost those fps and sound distorsion. Its for 5~ 15 second
Do you still experience the issue? Do you run Development Branch of the Arma 3?
Could you please send me the revision number of the build? ("LCtrl+/" in the game to copy i to clipboard)
I'm running on 1.34.128075 and i'm not in the dev branch.
Here the DxDiag :http://dl.free.fr/getfile.pl?file=/vF43Kwc1
I haven seen anything about it in the dev changelog yet.
I'm running on 1.34.128075 and i'm not in the dev branch.
The next stable patch that will include this fix should be deployed before Xmas.
Works for me, in the dev branch, of course my FPS drops but not to 0.
Yes, the particles can eat a lot of performance and we're investigating whether we can improve that as well. The stuttering and freezes were sound-related and they should no longer happen.
confirmed. massive drop from maybe 30-50fps to 10-15fps and its due to heavy cannon fire.
Are you sure that it's not because of your GFX settings? I mean, have you tried with lower settings? Some fps drop has to be happened, because there are things to do during canon firing. Destroying things etc.
Pls give some context, what happened when you lost half of your FPS.
Are you sure that this issue is still persistent? Because it's supposed to be fixed with patch 1.36. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to verify this myself.
The issue is fixed, in a way. Your still going to get frame drops due to heavy cannon fire, but you frames won't drop to 0.
