Description

This ticket is a collection of all problematic\stub\unfinished\temporary icons that we currently have post-release in game. Also includes some config problems with finished content.

  1. P07 still has temporary G17 icon:

"\A3\weapons_F\Pistols\P07\data\UI\gear_p07_x_ca.paa"

  1. Rook-40 has bigger icon than other pistols and also has ugly white outline:

"\A3\weapons_F\Pistols\Rook40\data\UI\gear_Rook40_x_ca.paa"

  1. RPG-42 icons have ugly white outline:

"\A3\Weapons_F\launchers\RPG32\data\UI\gear_rpg32_rocket_ca.paa"
"\A3\Weapons_F\launchers\RPG32\data\UI\gear_tbg32v_rocket_ca.paa"
Also these icons are much wider than other rocket\grenade icons though this is less important than fixing white outline

  1. Titan MPRL launchers share same icons even though launchers are colored differently when in player hands

  1. All Titan MPRL launchers appear as same default sand color when on ground in weapon holders but properly colored when in player hands

  1. Mk200 has icon that appears to be smaller than icons of other weapons and is not aligned in the same manner as other weapons, mk200 icon is shifted to bottom and right. Also icon has minor white outline.

  1. Plain and camo Mk20 variants both appear as plain Mk20 rifles on their icons while both plain and camo variants appear as camouflaged rifles on the ground

  1. Tracer variants of 5.56 30rnd STANAG Mags (used in TRG and Mk20 rifles) share icon with non-tracer variant of magazine even though icons for tracer magazines of all colors are present in weapons_f.pbo:

Zafir having icon of same box of caseless rounds as Mk200 is another problem on its own which causes confusion and makes you expect that Mk200 and Zafir will share mags which is not true.

  1. All NV Goggles ("NVGoggles", "NVGoggles_OPFOR", "NVGoggles_INDEP") share same icon even though goggles are colored different in game on players and on ground. This is really a minor problem though it would be great for all NVGs to have properly-colored icons for sake of consistency and to avoid any confusions why some NVGs are not grouped with other in Inventory screen.

  1. ARCO scope ("optic_Arco") has ugly white outline around it

  1. New DMS scope ("optic_DMS") has lower quality icon compared to other scopes in the game.

  1. Flashlight ("acc_flashlight") has white outline around the icon
  1. Holosight ("optic_Holosight") has stub upscaled icon with white outline

  1. MRCO ("optic_MRCO") has icon with much smaller image of the scope than other scopes have as well as white outline
  1. MRD ("optic_MRD") icon has white outline
  1. Nightstalker ("optic_Nightstalker") icon has white outline
  1. TWS ("optic_tws") and TWS MG ("optic_tws_mg") scopes icons have white outline. Also both scopes appear to look like Nightstalker in game but have icons of another scope.
  1. Yorris J2 ("optic_Yorris") icon has white outline
  1. SOS ("optic_SOS") icon has white outline
  1. All sound supressors icons have white outline
  1. There is an inconsistency with "picture" config values of vehicles, some have low resolution flat white profile shapes while other (most of which were introduced with and after beta version) have high resolution ArmA 2 style portraits. See attached picture: vehicle_pictures.png Seeing that original portraits of Offroad truck and Quadbikes were removed from the game and replaced with white shape icons, I propose to leave both types of images in the game under different config values, "picture" for white shapes and "portrait" for high resolution ArmA 2 style portraits since both formats will be very useful for mission developers. Also white shape icons of helicopter UAVs ("B_UAV_01_F", etc.) have much higher resolution than icons of other vehicles.
  1. Black MX rifles appear yellow when in weapon holders.
  1. All icons in general are very dark and look very bad on dark colored ArmA 3 style of menus. See attached darkicons.png for comparison between look of Katiba rifle icon from the game and from http://www.arma3.com/features/weapons which has weapons rendered differently (most icons there have white outline though). Bonus: Find Mk20 rifle on attached image findmk20.png. If icons were brighter there would be no problem displaying it on both light and dark backgrounds. I suggest to consider to re-render most or all weapon, magazine and attachment icons in similar style as they are present on http://www.arma3.com/features/weapons page (with the exception of white outline)

This ticket doesn't includes problems with uniform\vest\backpack\headgear icons since lots of these are still not in the game though have config definitions. {F22620} {F22621} {F22622} {F22623} {F22624} {F22625} {F22626} {F22627}

Don't forget that the Katiba magazine is clearly too short for 30 rounds.

It looks the same as it does in the game and that's fine for me.

Those issues definately have to get fixed, to make the differents between weapons more clear, especially for new players.

SaMatra: If you are referring to pictures on the internet that's because in pictures you're seeing the real weapon (Khaybar) with a 20 round magazine. The real weapon uses STANAG magazines and as portrayed in the game the magazine would be physically too small to hold 30.

Finally; If you go look up the magazine icon for the rifle, the file name lists it as a 20 rounder despite the fact in the game it carries 30.

I refer to UI image, it looks the same as it is in the game and it has no visual artifacts.

Thanks for summing up all of those issues, we appreciate that. Went through all of them and they are still valid.

Points 8., 9., 10. and 11. should be fixed in coming Steam dev update.
Regarding point 11.:

  • Zafir - Needs new magazine icon for the reasons mentioned.
  • Mk200 - Its magazines currently have green tracers even if it's not OPFOR weapon. Change will be considered.

I like the different tracer boxes. Adds some versatility to missions ( BLUFOR, OPFOR, & INDFOR can use it if the mission maker wants). Just my 2 cents

I expanded the ticket with suggestion to rerended all weapon icons and include proper lighting as weapons are rendered for arma3.com

When placing FIA Offroad as Zeus, sometimes it would appear plain red, instead of camoflaged. Same for the armed variant. I tried reproducing in another session of ZGM Stratis NATO but no such luck, so it's only a sometimes problem.

Also NV Scope (NVS) has a completely incorrect icon, still waiting for these to be fixed.
