Battleye causes stuttering in Multiplayer
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

No matter what server, how many people, firewalls/antiviruses, I always get a stutter effect in multiplayer rendering my experience in the game to be unplayable. I have a high end system, in singleplayer I average about 100FPS, in multiplayer with 30 or so people it's around 60, but the stutters come in every other second and freeze for a little bit then it goes back to 60. its as if the framerate drops. I looked into it, and ArmA2 had this problem as well with battleye. I joined a non-battleye multiplayer server, and wuala, perfect framerate, no lag, nothing. It's battleye.

Fresh Win7 64bit install here with updates.
Been fighting with this issue few days, no clue how to fix it.
Have it on Arma2 and Arma3, if I disable BE from servers, issue goes away.
Reloading beclient.dll wont help either.

Quote, just tried with mates that got this problem on my server, disabling BE all is ok!

I have thoroughly investigated this problem before. Something on your system (most likely some type of security software) interferes with BE's memory scanning and causes the whole game process to temporarily freeze as a result. It's important to note that this is not caused by a bug in BE. BE is designed to run alongside the actual game and should not decrease its performance in any noticeable way.

As a test you could try to disable any security software and if that doesn't help disable all startup programs and non-Microsoft services in "msconfig".

Sable, you were absolutely right.
I have ESET Smart Security 7 and even disabling firewall and antivirus, there were still components running like HIPS (Host-based Intrusion Prevention System) which was scanning memory.

When I disable ADVANCED MEMORY SCANNER under HIPS, problem goes away.
ESET -> SETUP -> ENTER ADVANCED SETUP -> COMPUTER -> HIPS -> DISABLE ADVANCED MEMORY SCANNER

I think you can close this issue as resolved.

I'd normally close the issue directly but I want to offer room for feedback, on the user or the developer side.

Could this also cause low FPS with BE and security engines running on the server?

No, not at all.

I had ESET NOD32 Antivirus version 6 installed and everything worked fine. When I upgraded to NOD32 version 7 I was not able to play ARMA2 and ARMA3 multiplayer game because of stuttering. Single player game was fine. ESET tech support helped me to solve this issue:
