groupChat, sideChat, commandChat do not work unless player has ItemRadio in inventory
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

player groupChat "Hello World";

does not output anything unless player has ItemRadio in his inventory.

This is not consistent with the in-game behavior. You can still press / and switch to side, group, or command channel, and send messages. Please make the behavior consistent.

Possible solutions:

  1. Disallow use of those channels if player has no ItemRadio
  2. Allow the use of groupChat, sideChat, or commandChat commands regardless of whether user has ItemRadio or not.
  3. Document the existing restriction in the Wiki.

I can't get chat to work in anyway at all. With or without ItemRadio in inventory.

Can anyone verify that the current version has any of the chats working at all. It works in my briefing screen. Once in as a soldier I see no text coming in, even text I write myself.

i agree with the first solution and the 3rd - disable those channels if you have no radio; document it.

@ozdeadmeat - works for me, but im in the dev build

@ozdeadmeat Do you have "Stream-friendly UI" enabled? Look under Options > Game. I had the same "problem" and turning it off fixed it for me. :)

Mass closing ancient tickets with no activity for > 12 months; assume fixed or too trivial.

If this issue is still relevant in current dev build, please re-post.
