FPS Issue(s). Needs to be solved!
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I'm sure most people here now are familiar, or have heard something about fps becoming significantly lower in multiplayer.

Even solo in multiplayer, I get a great loss of fps. (to be precise, 10 - 20 FPS.)
In big games, I get jammed between 20 - 30 fps constantly.

It's defiantly not a hardware issue, I have friends with a much beefier PC than mine and still get 20 - 30 FPS in multiplayer. I feel this is a really big issue and it needs to get solved.

Also what I find funny, If I lower my settings in multiplayer, they have 0% affect on my game. I can play on 640x400 on low and get 20 - 25 fps. My friend who has a GTX 670, Intel Core i5 gets only 30 - 40 fps on multiplayer, on any settings....

Finally, I feel like flying over sea water decreases FPS as well, something I've never experienced in arma 2 since it came out.

Overall, I love what's happening to arma 3, it's going in the right direction and I'm proud to be a long time "soldier" :)

FPS drop on MP are most of time server-side problem, if you playing on lagged server, you cant get high FPS.

Also try -cpuCount=[threads] (ex. -cpuCount=6)

And if you have Nvidia SLI setup, you need to set Rendering mode in drivers manualy :)

This is the biggest problem in the game right now, but they devs refuse to awknowledge there's a problem as far as I know. If the desync and the multiplayer FPS drop issues were resolved the game would be at least twice as good as it is.. If the current issues are not fixed I'm probably not even going to play the game.

wUFr: it's not a serverside problem. If the server was faster, yes, we'd get better FPS, but even a server with a nitrogen cooled super overclocked hexacore xeon can't run a server at decent FPS. What needs to be done is either:

  1. Make the game engine less hard on servers without actually changing the missions to be simpler (optimization?)
  2. Rewrite all of the netcode to make it modern so that client FPS isn't capped by server FPS.

If this issue is still relevant in current dev build, please re-post.
