Would be nice if aircraft could lock and fire missiles at a longer range then 1km, after all, most missile systems can engage up to tens or hundreds of miles away, really more looking for like 2-5 km though, so not that much more, but I think a longer lock range would be better.

that would make sense in altis but in stratis it would just make the aircraft overpow-... wait, there is no such thing as overpowered in arma, /upvoted, realism comes first
In real aircraft you don't just press tab while circling to find every single vehicle/aircraft near you and blow it up. I'd normally upvote this, but only if they made it harder to identify targets from an aircraft, especially ground targets.
then ask for BIS to use a more realistic aircraft simulation, cant tell of underwater, ground vehicles simulation is fine, but the aircrafts was ALWAYS the weak point of arma, ever since OFP
I would think that different lock techniques would be nice, depending on the missile used and how it would lock on, and of course, taking into consiteration the glass cockpit and the helmets with the hud built in and such, haha, the tab lock is only really good for radar based systems that lock onto long range air targets, I'd rather have a laser hud, and the IR systems that lock onto the heat signatures right in front.(unless that's changed with technology upgrades, like being able to chose what IR sig is locked on, depends really.) Just would like to see 3 different, but easy to use systems of locking.
i think we just need to make different the short range and long range missiles, as both of them has a lock-on range of as soon as the game tells you that there is an enemy there
True, I just kinda like the IR and laser screens that jets have, they seem like fun if done right.
So AAA sites can target you 12 km away? Great! It's actually way easier to avoid missiles fired far away than close. Far away gives you more time to maneuver or do whatever you can to avoid that SAM. And if you can't avoid it, you have enough time to deploy chaff (Long range missiles are typically radar - guided).
I don't think it's limited to 1 km .. ? It may be limited, but I locked on targets and killed them further away than 1 km.
Anyway, exact real life parameters are impossible (as someone asked for that). E.g. AMRAAM has a range of up to 120 km in real life.
I think they need 4000 meter engagement, require laser designator or remote designator. ( remote control device player) . 1 km is good if u want to watch the helis fly and blow up, Or be slaughtered like ducks from ai rockets.
I just tested, AI AA vehicles on the ground engage Air Targets at approximately 2.5km.
Are we talking about AI controlled entities or Player controlled?
Change for ai pilots would be good. They usually fly right into AA. But player controlled missiles need to be longer. Like they are in real life.
