AH-9 and KA--60 gun fire rate is directly proportional to the framerate
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

When the client has a high framerate, the AH-9 and KA-60 have a decent fire rate.

When the client has a low framerate, the rate of fire of the AH-9's miniguns and the KA-60's gatling guns are much lower, making it hard to destroy targets. This is in both singleplayer and multiplayer.

NOTE: this is not a matter of "lower frames => I see fewer bullets because of the framerate." This literally entails the Little Bird firing as few as 600 rounds per minute, when it should be firing close to 4000 rpm. The framerate should not affect the rate of fire.

Steps To Reproduce

Put all settings to low and fly an AH-9 out to the ocean, so your framerate is silky smooth. Fire the minigun, and note how fast the bullets are being fired.

Then put all settings to high (especially object view distance) and fly the AH-9 over Agia Marina. Fire the minigun and compare that rate of fire to the previous one.

This can be done in singleplayer and multiplayer.

Additional Information

More than likely all helicopter guns suffer from this issue.

EDIT: Testing methodology -

Game version: Beta 0.71.106777 - development branch.

TEST 1: High framerate (55-60+ FPS: object distance set to 500, helicopter at "The Spartan")
Ammo Start = 5000
Ammo End = 3850
Duration = 30 seconds
Calculated Rate of Fire = 2500 rpm

TEST 2: Low Framerate (15-20 fps: Set everything to high/ultra, max view/object distance, helicopter in the middle of Agia Marina)
Ammo Start = 5000
Ammo End = 4592
Duration = 30 seconds
Calculated Rate of Fire = 816 rpm

REPEATED TESTS:
High Framerate: 2442 rpm
Low Framerate: 756 rpm

Please note: the time is measured using the IN-GAME watch alongside an IRL stopwatch. The in-game watch kept accurate time despite the differences in framerate.

use something more than just the sound, use the marking on the grounds

By "note how fast the bullets are being fired" I didn't just mean the sound of the bullets, I also meant looking at the ammo count and noting how fast it decreases, and indeed, how many bullets hit the ground.

All of which indicate a lower firing rate with lower frame rate.

OK Here are the results

TEST 1 - Netbook(28-30 FPS, FRAPS):
Ammo start: 5000
Ammo end: 3240
Test duration: 60 seconds
Calculated Rate of Fire: 1760 rpm

TEST 2 - Desktop(57-58 FPS, FRAPS):
Ammo start: 5000
Ammo end: 1464
Test duration: 60 seconds
Calculated Rate of Fire: 3536 rpm

Game version: Beta 0.71.106777 - development branch.

UPDATE: Added calculated rate of fire.
UPDATE2: Both tests are based on in-game stopwatch too.

@ArkanSvk: I have no idea why I didn't think to do that test before! I've done one myself for quantitative purposes:

Game version: Beta 0.71.106777 - development branch.

TEST 1: High framerate (55-60+ FPS: object distance set to 500, helicopter at "The Spartan")
Ammo Start = 5000
Ammo End = 3850
Duration = 30 seconds
Calculated Rate of Fire = 2500 rpm

TEST 2: Low Framerate (15-20 fps: Set everything to high/ultra, max view/object distance, helicopter in the middle of Agia Marina)
Ammo Start = 5000
Ammo End = 4592
Duration = 30 seconds
Calculated Rate of Fire = 816 rpm

Please note: the time is measured using the IN-GAME watch alongside an IRL stopwatch. The in-game watch kept accurate time despite the differences in framerate.

If other people want to perform the same or similar tests with other helicopters, please post!

there is no helicopter called the Ka-60 in the dev version...just saying.

vryoffbtdrummr, i think you haven't played alpha, the chopper was renamed PAC (or POC?) 30, just another placeholder.

brucey, your tests convinced me, indeed this is a problem.

Upvoted.

he said the test was in the dev version. as of now, there is no such thing as a Ka-60

Yes you're right. It's the Orca now.

But this is not limited to the dev version/beta. It's been like this since release.

This glitch is detrimental. Please fix it as soon as possible.

If this issue is still relevant in current dev build, please re-post.
