Have you checked the forums for possible solutions?
Could you add the Arma3 logs (.rpt) as well?

I've had a good search through the Steam forums as well, as for the Arma3 logs where are they located?

try: C:\Users\[USER NAME]\AppData\Local\Arma 3 Alpha

I dont have an Arma 3 Alpha folder in my appdata\local, maybe that is created once the game launches successfully?

Yes, you have true, this folder is created, when game launches succesfully. It looks, that some firewall or antivirus software blocks start game. Do you use Zone Alarm?

I used to have Zonealarm a while ago, but it is currently uninstalled and fully removed. Any further options to try to fix this?

Try the following parameters(separate from each other):

-nosound
-winxp
-noLand

.Set number of speakers in Windows to stereo.
.Try disabling all soundcards in computer management.

.Did you start steam before running Arma3 or do you use the exe (or launcher)?
.Did you have steam verify the game cache?

Ok went through the parameters on Steam and .exe launch properties, same error message so far. Then tried to disable all soundcards and devices and launch the game, still no change in error type, then tried stereo mode on main soundcard still no luck.

And to clear up what sound hardware I have; I have an X-FI Creative hardware soundcard and a redundant/disabled integrated motherboard soundcard, as well as a redundant/disabled HDMI audio device on my graphics card.

Additionally I tried using an old version of Gamebooster to cut out any processes that might be interfering (most I already disabled by default using MSConfig).

Anything else I can try?

Suggestions:

  • Older version of the Ati drivers.
  • A version of the drivers from you videocard manufacturer.
  • Run the game in administrator mode (if not allready done so).

Perhaps this could point you in the right direction? : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796

Other games have no issues?

I have managed to get the game to run by installing Zonealarm then uninstalling Zonealarm, with a system shutdown between each procedure. I have launched the game, attempted the first two showcases and been able to shut the game down with no problems, while running on 'high' settings.

Good to hear there was a solution to your problem. ZoneAlarm has given me problems in the past as well, now using comodo free firewall at the moment, no problems yet (Windows firewall is too limited for security).

Ah will check it out :D

Is it ok, after full uninstall of Zone Alarm?

Yes currently launching and exiting, with some game-play in between ;p

edit: using Comodo Firewall at moment, which is causing no issues with Arma3 as far as I know.
