Shamoolies, known by the military, are 38mm hand launched illumination flares, I think they would make a great addition to the sim especially as almost all of the forces in the world use them.

Are these not already within the game when accessing a game with the Virtual Ammo Service (VAS)?
They're almost at the bottom of the list and just state "Flare" instead of "Flare Round" or "Flare GL Round". However, they are not usable as a hand thrown item as of yet to my knowledge. I have yet to try them with the Beta release, and will put this on my list tonight. ;-)
