Not able to use autorotation in helicopters
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The term autorotation refers to the rotors turning without the engine.
A scenario in Arma where this could be used would be whenever you are in a helicopter, flying, and run out of fuel or have an engine failure. In the real world, you would be able to use the collective, turn the pitch of the rotors "down" so while falling, they would be spinning faster without the engine, and then while nearing the ground, turn the pitch "up" so that the fast spinning blades would work as if they were powered and allow a safe enough landing (with some skidding, although that concept isn't yet in Arma for helicopters and needs to be) other than being in an inescapable crash.

Additional Information

The previous report on this topic was closed by MadDogX after stating "You can autorotate by holding the "collective lower" key." which simply does not work (or at least has not yet after numerous trials).
While its obvious that it doesn't work like it should in a real life scenario, the descent isn't as fast as a falling helicopter without rotor movement would be (though no helicopter in Arma descends particularly fast while remaining level)

I did not experience any problems at all.

I tried to turn off the engine and landed 100% fine.
I also tried to loose the engine due to enemy fire, and also landed 100% fine ).

Said with other words.
Im able to autorotate 100% of the time and make a safe landing 100% of the time as long as i'm above example 50height and 60 speed. Just pitch down 10-20 degrees and once near ground pull back and level off, and then land.

I have to agree, autorotation works as it has done since Arma1.

@Statek: unless you can point out an actual bug or some specific way in which the implementation of autorotation needs to be changed, this ticket will be closed aswell.

EDIT: scratch that. Re-opening closed tickets without additional info or clarification is not appreciated here anyway, so I'm closing this one. Do not create another ticket unless it shows something specific as mentioned above.
