Transitioning between rifle and pistol and back again is a slow, cumbersome animation that involves slinging the rifle over the character's shoulder. The rifles of modern military forces (not to be assumed all) are equipped with slings that allow its user to "drop" the rifle across the user's torso and quickly transition to a sidearm. Current animation discourages the use of pistols over reloading in close quarters, high intensity moments.
This concept is already put to use in Arma when a character climbs a ladder while holding a rifle, and similarly when a character uses binoculars. The idea of a sling is presented, even if not seen, as the rifle hangs to the side for quick acquisition.
Modern training also incorporates transitioning from rifle to pistol and back again while moving. Currently, a character must stop movement to transition from one to the other. Transitioning should be allowable at least at a walking pace.

Load a unit armed with a rifle and pistol (Blufor Rifleman, for instance) into the editor, Preview, and press ";" (by default) to transition between the two. Press ";" while moving forward to stop and transition.
Find a ladder and climb it with a rifle in-hand while in third-person over the shoulder perspective. Notice the placement of the rifle in this animation.

Supported. Why take the unnecessary time-wasting move of putting your primary weapon on your back, when you just let it hang on a sling in front of you? Up-voted!
Completely agree. Transitioning from Rifle to Pistol should only take less than a second. Hell, I can do that in real life because I trained for it.
@ Fast Walker
out of curiosity, can you measure the time you need to switch between aiming with a pistol and aiming with a rifle?
Do that ten times in a row and then divide the overall time you needed through that. :D
actually it's lightning fast, but just retarded, since you would never put your rifle on your back and switch to pistols, you'd just drop the rifle in place at your chest. that's the whole point of pistols, a last resort defensive weapon. you'd want to whip it out fast.
not a time issue, but an animation/visual issue. hope smookie gets on this fast.
