Allow dialogs to be used as a Render to Texture (picture in picture) source.
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Allow dialogs to be used as a source for render to texture on objects in game. This would allow for easier, more customizable interfaces on many vehicles, including better/easier to make MFD in aircraft, displays for components in land vehicles, etc.

Nothing fancy, no need to add in things like buttons or drop downs, simply being able to draw to the RTT surfaces simple things like text, images, and basic shapes would be enough to do everything that could be imagined. This would be an incredibly powerful tool for the community.

Has there been any update on this?

Add rendering of the GPS map with RTT to the list too.

We actually investigated this during Take On Helicopters development, and we found out it's not possible without overhauling large part of the engine. I'm afraid that user interface and 3D rendering are completely separate and cannot be easily combined.

Seriously? There is no way to get the bitmap from when the render of the dialogs occurs?

This is a serious drawback! There is an extreme amount of potential in allowing customized drawing to render surfaces! This is _literally_ the single most inhibiting factor in the RV engine right now. Allow this and you open up a multitude of possibilities for Arma and future IP.

Rather than things like Zeus, engine capabilities like this should be taken EXTREMELY seriously, well over added gamemodes.

I can only agree with previous comments, there is so much potential that this enhancement would unlock.

Examples would be having the map shop up on a screen of your vehicle's dashboard, or the currently set frequency for your radio being visible on the actual radio rather than some extra dialogue that you have to overlay on-top of the 3D scene.
